Hi, does anyone have info on how it is up there today???

Today I spoke on the phone with the hut keeper under Peca. He said that there were between 500 and 600 hikers on the winter hike that was organized today. The track is good, weather nice, definitely full winter gear is needed. Tomorrow we're heading up with colleagues and will write more. LP Andrej

Yesterday (14.2.) I went from Mežica direction. The path is partially icy at the start, but crampons not needed as icy parts can be bypassed nicely on snow. Further snow is partially frozen and partially crusted, so it sinks partially (5-10 cm). About an hour before the hut the path is rutted from sliding down. One step up and half step back. Morning sunny, around 12h started snowing at the hut. Path to top quite rutted. Wind on top. Back fast, almost sliding down. From Mežica 5 hours to top, back 3 hours. Need gaiters and poles.

I quite agree with the previous one regarding conditions and gear! Today nine of us started from the mine in Topla, past the hut, to the top of Peca. Conditions for walking were good, not sinking too much as snow was hard and slightly frozen. Return via Jakobe to the valley, then hitchhike to Topla, thanks to the friendly local lady. Peca welcomed us today bathed in sun, but also with quite strong wind. It was wonderful! LP Andrej

This morning six of us headed to Peca from the Črna direction! To the hut the path is very trodden, torn from sliding down as Matic already said! No trace of new snow, all blown away! Sinks only rarely! And only about 5 cm. From the hut onward to Kordeževa glava it's a highway! It was very nice although from the hut onward strong wind blowing! Crampons useful for descent, not needed because most of the time sliding! velik nasmeh

Yesterday I did a solo ascent (as always) from the Pod Pece direction and I can say super, but recommend crampons on descent anyway, because steps and "tracks" from skis are so frozen it's ouch. I had crampons but was too lazy to put them on, so slid directly through the forest... how it threw me nasmeh

Surroundings in clouds, cloudy weather and such wind that it moved me, fingers on my hand I couldn't feel when signing the book.

Snow on Peca is of course still plentiful.
From Podpece to Lovska hut there's none,
then snow cover thickness increases.
It is trodden, but during holidays after 10 o'clock it sank quite a bit,
so the path today from hut to top is probably quite churned up.
How it will be on Saturday 18.04. the meteorologists know.

On Saturday I was on Peca from Mežica. Up to 1500m OK - no snow, further snow, up to 11.00 no problem, but later need to watch out due to postholing. In Dom na Peci I ate excellent goulash with polenta.

On Peca approx 30 cm new snow fell. Snow postholed all the way, if lucky only to knees. Summit wrapped in fog, wind blowing as usual.
Now track is made, two hikers came up behind me, so use another nice day for the trip! nasmeh

Last Friday by bike to the hut on Peca and there was no trace of snow left there. As far as I could see from afar, there is probably almost no snow left anymore.
