Saturday, 20.6.2020 Although I only manage in Italian, with the help of a dictionary I like to read online news from the borderlands. About what's new in Beneška Slovenija, which is now Slavia Friulana, previously it was Slavia Veneta, and of course about my beloved Resia. Last year I spotted news that they opened a new hiking trail in Zajzera called Sentiero Alfonso Della Mea, in memory of the alpinist and mountain rescuer who lived in nearby Ovča vas. The same day as Della Mea, Mario Gariup also died, one of the last Slovenian Čedermacs, the priest in Ukve. Della Mea was Gariup's parishioner, they were friends, fate wanted them to part the same day, just hours apart, just a few kilometers from each other. They opened the trail last fall, then snow fell, then the epidemic came, but the desire to visit Krniška glavica via this path didn't fade. On the way to Zajzera it rained all the way to Gornjesavska dolina, if it had been at the starting point too, I'd say the trip was washed out for us. Luckily it was different, even some blue sky and a sunray appeared when we set off. From Planina Zajzera we went by road under Montaž, followed CAI 616 on the scree to CAI 639, went a bit further to the next junction and there took CAI 639a or Sentiero Alfonso Della Mea. Soon it led us to a stream, above which there were some waterfalls, I gallantly carried her across, then we continued steeply uphill through the forest with almost no views. Higher up the forest thinned and gradually turned into open terrain, where among the bushes we soon reached the junction with CAI 611. Left down towards CAI 616 and up over Nabojsovo sedlo to Koča Pellarini or down to Zajzera, but we continued right uphill and after five minutes reached Bivak Stuparič, hidden a bit higher behind the edge. Then we crossed the slopes under Montaž, passed two snow patches where soft snow caused no problems, and at the fork where left up goes to Foran dela Grave, turned right towards Krniška glavica. A bit here and there through dwarf pines and we were at the ruins, from there to the top just a few steps. Rest, snack, first pears of the year. Memories, wishes, plenty of both, even a tear of joy or sadness depending on what I thought of, then we had to go down. First carefully, quite a lot of loose scree on the ruined path, seen through dog paws of course, then pleasantly to the saddle, from there past the lake and Koča Grego to the car but mud up to the knees. Well, exaggerating, I admit, almost to the ankles. It was nice, a very pleasant day. https://tubojan.blogspot.com/2020/06/jof-di-sompdogna-krniska-glavica.html
