Krnčica

Yes, on the picture there is a machine gun nest, maybe also a mountain artillery nest, a window that looks out onto the open. The Italians relentlessly attacked, that's why so many remains on the path.

Really nice photos, congratulations! At the same time also informative, since rarely anyone shows the path so nicely, where you can even see how to get by car to the starting point. Mostly only close-up shots are posted, from which you can't discern as much as from your "distant" photos.

I'm wondering who allowed putting a cross on Krnčica? I thought there was a general consensus that summits shouldn't be littered with new and new "ornaments". Especially not ideological or religious ones. For God's sake, let at least some summit remain "natural"...

Maybe the Drežnica mountaineers would know, who allegedly also marked the mentioned path.

Personally I don't see crosses on mountain tops as religious symbols (religious symbol is mainly that cross with corpse nailed on top). The cross (equilateral) is much older symbol than Christian religion. I really like that summits are somehow marked and this marking is not our Slovenian invention at all; if crosses are too problematic, let it be something else, e.g. X sign or such :-).

Or e.g. red star? mežikanje
I'm also of the opinion that the cross is superfluous. Summit logbox with stamp suffices completely.

No stamp!

In my opinion, stamps are losing meaning, since sometimes they're not at the summit, but in the hut or similar. So it's not necessary to step on the summit to get the stamp. For me, photos from the trip suffice, which I always gladly look at again or share with friends.

A mountaineering tour is like figure skating nasmeh

It consists of an artistic and technical impression zmeden
Artistically, it's all that feeling that so pleasantly warms your heart when wandering in the useless world.
Technically, it's all that you grab with your feet and hands, which is sometimes steeper, sometimes less.

Well, each in their own way, of course. And to each their own too.

@majčica nicely described and pictured the ascent to Krnčica, which is worth a visit; even nicer is the full ridge traverse to Krn, which truly delights the real mountaineer. But I can't overlook that there are always some who are bothered by everything, although they haven't been in these mountains for 5, 10 years or never and have so much to say.

Yesterday despite forecasts of hellish temperatures I headed to Krnčica. At the starting point above Drežniške Ravne at 6am 18 degrees, on return even 31.
But in the morning most of the path was in shade, no excessive moisture either, so I reached the top of Krnčica all fresh and could have flown further. After some time sitting in the sun all enthusiasm evaporated. I returned the same way and climbed Lopatnik, which fog rolling from the valley started to cover. I descended to Vrata and sat there quite a while in pleasant coolness hoping the fog would clear so I could continue ridge traverse to Vršič.
Fog wouldn't budge, I got tired of sitting, so descended to planina Zapleč.
After about an hour of walking sky above peaks cleared, only Krn still hid in clouds. With each step sun burned more mercilessly, skin almost burning at end. 3 liter water bladder almost empty too.
Despite that it was great.

Sorry, wondering if car access to planina Zaprikaj is possible? Some time ago the road about 300m above parking above Drežniške Ravne (at bend in cutting where terrain slippery and wet) was deliberately dug up and damaged. I think it was done so we wouldn't drive to planina Zaprikaj and shorten paths to Krasji vrh or Krnčica by a good hour...

The road was repaired last year because they were hauling wood from the forest. This year at end of winter it was locally quite dug up, especially to the bend where path to Curk waterfall branches off and a bit higher where quite some stones fell on the road. Given numerous cars driving on it, probably in better condition now. If your car has higher ground clearance, no problem.
Since the car I drive doesn't, I go on foot via hiking path branching right right at start. Path is nice and scenic, also hot in these summer days. Better to do it morning when sun not shining yet. Otherwise via path to Krasji vrh which mostly goes through forest in lower part.
