mountain lover, 20.5. we went up the western way, down the eastern and there was nothing impassable anywhere. (or closed) Urbanček just can't get out of his skin anyway.

I had the eastern path in mind that leads to the summit from Austria... Somewhere I read that it's closed...

This is the exit of the former eastern path from the Austrian side, between K. Turn and Tolsto Košuta. I wouldn't go down here anymore, it's not marked either.

Urbanček, is the OTK on Turn comparable to Hanz's on Mojstrovka or is it harder? Maybe I'll try it.

To my taste, this Austrian one is a tiny bit harder.

The slopes get a bit mixed up, then it's fine everywhere. On the one tinky had in mind, it wasn't bad for me either. Since we're comparing, to me the main difference between OTK neu and Hanz's is the crumbly terrain. Every rock you grab is almost one to take home and accordingly the scree on the path from K. Turn is full of it. But, as everywhere, it's doable.

When driving through our beautiful Carinthia, sometimes the road takes me to some mountain summit. So I drove to the Koča pod Košuto hut, then along the path towards Potok saddle, but of course I didn't get there, as I turned up earlier through the scree and into the east gully of Košutnikov Turn. At times it seemed to me that the path is abandoned, although it's well marked and also secured, bottom with chain, in between with steel cables. It's crumbly in the gully though, but no problems. When I exit the gully, the view opens to the south and to Dolga Njiva below, where we've slept many times, and Mateja cooks very well, so the food is excellent. To the summit it was just a walk then. I sat a bit, then down to the saddle and down the secured path to the scree and back to the hut.

To escape the valley heat, we chose Košutnikov Turn on Friday. From below the Dolga Njiva mountain pasture we climbed the more demanding western path to the summit of Košutnikov Turn. On the ridge and summit there was a moderately strong southwest wind blowing, otherwise everything is nice and fine. Down the eastern side, and as soon as possible we crossed the steep meadows under Tolsta Košuta, and then climbed both summits of Tolsta Košuta.

Today a bit of easy hiking. Up the western and down the eastern. Weather perfect.

Yesterday morning I parked at the parking lot below Dolga Njiva. There according to the description here on this portal there should be some quarry but to me it looks more like a landslide, rockfall, slip and I doubt they ever quarried stone there. From there I head towards Dolga Njiva, just before the hut I turn onto the western path towards Košutnikov Turn. After good half an hour walk from the pasture, fog already embraces me, which I saw from below as low clouds. Of course it requires extra caution. The fog increases with altitude. The path in switchbacks drags like intestines, well I overcome the last steep part and I'm on the ridge between Ostrv and Košutnikov Turn. There it starts blowing like hell so I put on my anorak and head to the summit. Follows the hardest part that requires some scrambling, the first rock jump is still ok because not too crumbly, then a bit of path, well the second scrambling part is already crumbly and also the rock was all wet due to dense fog. Then soon at the summit. Since there's nothing to see around, I quickly head down. The eastern path is more exposed, so with poor visibility and wet rock extra caution was needed, but it didn't seem demanding in itself as classified in the description on this portal. Well, down at Dolga Njiva the sun already peeks from behind the clouds. I head to the parking and drive to the new starting point for the afternoon.

Yes, I agree, both paths E and W are classified as difficult... but there's a difference between them... E is considerably easier... p.s. and yes, that thing at the start definitely isn't a quarry

Today with my brother, according to the forecast that clouds might wrap around the peaks later, from the parking below Dolge Njive, where we arrived first today, we started a bit before seven in the morning. Fog stayed in the Ljubljana basin and above us there was only clear sky. Soon the southern slopes of Košuta were also illuminated by the sun . We decided to tackle Košutnikov Turn from the western side, which turned out to be a super move, as later, when we descended via the eastern path to Zgornje Dolge Njive, we also tackled Tolsta Košuta. No peculiarities on the path, just in the lower half more dew on the ground and we had to adjust our step to it. On the path itself we met only a handful of hikers, and those only after noon, when we were already returning from Tolsta Košuta too. Then clouds started to take the peaks. Interestingly, a cyclist and a female cyclist looked to us, who with bikes on their shoulders were rushing towards the summit of Košutnikov Turn from the east, intending to descend into the valley with them on the west side. Maybe they even did the ridge to the west. I hope they made it safely to the valley, like us. Around one p.m. we pleasantly tired sat into our iron horses and together concluded that another nice mountain trip was behind us.

Today on Košutnikov Turn a beautiful day, without a cloud and with moderate wind. Western path without peculiarities, on the eastern more caution is needed in the upper part where it is quite slippery and at two spots where there are still two patches of snow on the path, otherwise without peculiarities. Best regards and good luck!

Today's plan: Košutnikov Turn via the western path, before or after also there and back along the ridge over Macesje to Užnik. But our plan turned a bit upside down due to chatting, as the "impossible" happened to us and soon after Dolga Njiva we missed the right turn upwards (when we checked it on the way back, we realized even the impossible is possible ) and continued ahead towards Tegoška Planina, Pungrat, Kofc... When we realized something was off, we didn't feel like turning back and decided for improvisation.. we'll get somewhere... And this mistake turned out excellent, as we then visited all planned peaks, and made practically a loop without walking the same path both ways... On a really leisurely and well-marked path from Dolga Njiva westwards we reached Tegoška Planina, where through pathless terrain we headed up along the large clearing... Previously somehow we didn't dare because of the forest, here the world opened nicely and orientation was no problem (we've been to Tegoška Gora before). Then on the slope of Tegoška Gora we found passages through scree, later sought the best variants over steep grasses (careful!!!! - these grasses can slide like the devil even when dry), "bypassed" Tegoška Gora and reached the saddle between it and Užnik. From here we continued on the marked path eastwards, first to Užnik, then along the ridge to Macesje and further towards Košutnikov Turn. We descended via the western path, where later we checked "our" junction and really couldn't figure out how we missed it... But, as already said, no harm done... we made a nice loop because of it . The whole path can be hiked without issues without winter gear, just some small patches of frozen snow on the ridge between Užnik and Macesje, but they are really in places that cause no dangers or problems. The ridge path is well secured with fixed ropes if someone needs them on slightly more exposed spots. Only the last fixed rope towards Košutnikov Turn at the end is loose together with the rock in the air, but it is not problematic. In short, wonderful day, only if it hadn't blown so strongly on the ridge and summits... Also some documentation.
