Hi. Does anyone have info if Kocbek hut is open, or if not when it will be, especially for May 1 holidays? What about snow conditions around there? Thanks.

Thanks. Called, seems half meter snow up there, hut won't open before June. Planned to go with buddy from Smrekovec via SPP to Kamniško sedlo, gotta postpone it a bit.

On Friday we headed towards Ojstrica. We went from Podvežak. From the part where the path to Molička peč branches off onwards to Korošica probably no one has walked ahead of us for quite a while, as there were no tracks. Snow sank up to knees (sometimes up to butt). On descent it was snowing, snow stuck to ground even lower (where there normally isn't any). Conditions are completely wintry.

Today, according to the forecasters, I take advantage of the last nice day for the next few days and drive to Planina Podvežak. Along the marked path, I head to the hut on Korošica. Between Planina Podvežak and the saddle, there are still some snow patches, which do not pose major problems with careful crossing. Already at the hut, I had Lučki Dedec in mind and head along the marked path to Prag, then right into pathless terrain to the top of Dedec. Cairns help all along. I return to Prag, then descent to Vodotočno Lake; from there, again pathless on the left side to the top of Deska, then crossing the ridge and visit to Lastovec, and descent on the hunting path back to Planina Podvežak.

On Saturday, I was again "drawn" to the parking at Planina Podvežak, where it was already almost full of steel horses in the morning; cheerfully disposed guys confided that they have a football tournament on Planina Korošica; we for a change took first to Tolsti vrh (branch from direction Korošica-Molička peč is newly nicely marked); to the saddle we ascended on the trenched cross path together with a young family from Holland; we needed to wake up some English and quickly agreed to ease their path finding on the map if they go with us; we were enthusiastic over the views from the top of Deska (the view to Konj and Rzenik and especially the ridge passage to Korošica fascinated me too), and from Tolsti vrh to the other side, then we descended steep but well-visible path some altitude to Vodotočno Lake and continued behind the hut, first flat, later gradually steeper, already marked path to the prag under Lučki Dedec; crossing the prag opened a wonderful view to the really nice green Planina Korošica under our feet, in the background Ojstrica, whose top mostly hid in mists, while above the ridges toward Mali Ojstrica clear sky showed, on the plain full of alpine enthusiasts - hikers in various directions and on the football field lively and cheerful as if the tournament players hadn't hiked some altitude before; here we parted from our new acquaintances, mountain lovers (they have already visited Pyrenees, Dolomites, Swiss Alps, now our KSA), as they assured they won't get "lost" on the return anymore, our path led of course to the "pearl", the really nice Molička planina with Kocbek shelter and chapel and under Veliki vrh back to the starting point; wonderfully experienced day, nice loop, yes Geppo next time by your suggestion ; lp

Nice, Tadej! How about the drivability of the road further from Planinšek? Thanks.

Both roads, the one leading to Podvežak pasture and the one towards Ravne pasture, are normally drivable.

Well, yesterday I finally managed it. The day before yesterday's joint New Year's Eve celebration with firstborn Sara (who came to this dear world already 24 weeks early, 4 weeks ago) and mommy in the maternity ward, then a good two hours' sleep in Zasavje. Followed, of course, by the early rising appropriate only for the mountains and the drive towards Podvežak pasture. The path to Molička pasture is nicely traceable - trodden mainly to the junction for Korošica. Conditions ideal for hiking and of course safer than on the "Roban side". Snow nicely firm (already new snow today!), icy crust below, but with careful walking it hardly sinks through, powder just right. In short, nice weather, nice mountaineering paradise and if the plea to God at Molička chapel succeeds, we will in the future wander as a group through this beautiful magnificent world. Safe steps to all and a safe journey to your set goals!

Thanks, GITA! Skiman, I parked a bit (a few hundred meters) before the barrier and then walked straight along the forest road - about 10 min to Planina Podvežak...

Does anyone have any data, what's the road to Podvežak like and has anyone gone to Korošica these days? Thanks

Yesterday I noticed again one example of a sign that shows longer distance than it used to. Not criticism (everyone should walk as fast as they want and can), but more an observation. 5 hours from Kamniška Bistrica to Korošica is more than I remember for that distance, even guides I have from the beginning of the century mention 4 hours and a half. Also in the Julian Alps I noticed some such cases over the years. Have we started walking slower in the last 10 years or what's the reason?

I don't know...on the way back it will hold four hours. Started a little before five, arrived around 22, given that I got lost twice(to Vodotoč and back to the junction for Presedljaj and also at the end improvised a bit in the dark) I'd say it holds somewhere.
