No, not necessary! Crevasses can be nicely avoided. No worries!

Morning starts at parking of Neues Lucknerhaus hut. From there on foot directly under little Klek. Skis on somewhere above 2800. Gully and summit already sunlit on ascent and nicely frozen promising good skiing. Descent nothing special then nice ski to valley with some intermediate bare sections.

Hi, one question about the mentioned road (Glockner Hochalpenstrasse)... Is it still that outside toll booth working hours the road is normally drivable and you just don't pay toll, or is the barrier down by chance?

I think there are no time exemptions there.

On their website it says that between 1 June and 31 August the road is open from 5.30 to 21.00, then driving on the mountain road is allowed. Last entry at 20.15, from that I conclude the road is then actually "physically closed" (barrier?). Between the lines it also says that the camera records the vehicle's license plate at entry/exit from park. See link in my post a bit higher.

I checked their website... yeah that "last entry" bothered me, because from that you can conclude that at 20.15 the barrier closes. Not so long ago... about 6 years ago it was just so that "outside official hours" you went through for free. In short, it was a hiker-friendly system... now I'm afraid Austrians started taking lessons from some Bohinj folks and Kranjska Gora people...

First day to the hut and afternoon to the summit. Second day to the east and to the valley. Path without special features, only crampons mandatory.
