Thanks for the answer. What does classic crampons mean? How do I determine what kind of crampons my boots are suitable for?

Classic crampons are generally suitable for all types of hiking boots, those without special grooves.
Boots for semi-automatic crampons have a special groove on the heel part, boots for automatic crampons on the heel and front part.
Given that hiking interests you more, classic crampons will probably come into consideration for you.

Thanks for the answer.
I'm really only interested in hiking. But I'm wondering how useful e.g. those crampons with two front teeth are - I have the feeling that for walking on moderate slopes it's more of an obstacle than help. In this case, Ice track crampons from Veriga Lesce seem a better choice to me. Am I wrong?

No offense, but Ice track is an aid for a trip e.g. to Šmarna Gora.
That's not for the mountains at all. Where you two with your wife will go hiking, only you two know.

Please nicely, so that it doesn't start again. It was nice for a while, let it stay that way

Small crampons would come in handy for me at the beginning of the path, when after sunny days and morning walk, the path is icy, higher up then change crampons for real ones.

Hello,

I'm looking around the internet what to buy for a beginner hiker for hills in winter conditions: classic crampons via bolha, e.g.

ice axe the one below:

Any advice before first purchase?

Thanks and nice snowy weekend

Oh and also, is 50 cm length (reaches a bit over the knee) enough for walking or is it better to have a longer ice axe according to experiences?

I personally wouldn't buy used gear, because it's overpriced, crampons don't have plastic on the bottom against heels and it's weird to adjust. In Kibuba I have a small sea of spikes but I'm not near the store, crampons and 60cm ice axe (height 177cm). Straight one, which has rubberized handle and a bit curved, many hikers have it, but any non-rubberized ice axe goes in handle first. For ridges you need winter mountaineering boots, hard sole, otherwise everything twists as the picture in the upper link shows... others will say more. And one well-meaning tip: always have double gloves in mountains in winter!!!

I have those crampons, and can only praise them (for hiking) http://www.iglusport.si/dereze-magic-8

Ice axe should be approximately the length from armpit to end of arm.

...says they are 10-point, picture shows 8 points, everyone takes 12-point ones.

Hi, thanks for the tips. I'll need a 60 cm ice axe according to the above measuring method. I'll check the offers a bit.
@Ljubitelj gora, if you have too many points we could arrange a loan nasmeh

Hi,

winter season is starting and this year I want to enter it with a bit more gear. Buying crampons and ice axe and have no idea what to watch out for. Some ice axes are straight, others a bit curved, some 50cm others 60cm...crampons are classic, automatic and semi-automatic...hm...
If you're interested in my measurements, here they are - height 190cm, weight 90kg, shoe size 47...I have regular high boots.

My price range is about 100€ + 100€.

Can you recommend something please?

Thanks and best,
Primož

I, as a beginner with little experience, have a Black Diamond 55 cm ice axe bought in Iglu and semi-automatic Camp crampons also bought in Iglu and they fit well on boots from Alpine Tibet. Everything is totally fine. lp

I have 12-point classic crampons and two hiking ice axes 60cm straight. You take 65cm. Helmet you must have already. Classic crampons will fit any footwear. If you have summer boots probably no notch behind heel area. In winter, if hiking buy winter boots and as wished classic or semi or automatic crampons. On my Alpinine Tetons all crampons fit, because boot has notch front and back. If not sure take new boots to shop when buying crampons. When you have all that, definitely find someone to teach you gear use or attend courses.

Read this topic from the start a bit and you'll find many answers to your questions. Hiking ice axe is bought according to person's height, so for you would fit about 70 cm (ice axe must in stretched arm at least reach ankle). Climbing ice axes are all 50 cm anyway. Crampons depend on boots (universal, semi or automatic), but don't buy crampons with less than 12 points, and don't buy climbing but hiking crampons. There, lp ... mežikanje
