I'm interested in what the path from Kranjska Hut to Czech Hut is like (difficulty, walking time, recommended equipment, peculiarities...). Thanks in advance for the help and answers. LPnasmeh

Hi!

The path from Kranjska Hut on Ledine to Czech Hut is quite varied, at times even adrenaline-pumping especially across Žrelo, which crosses an almost vertical wall. Recommended gear: must-have helmet, self-belay kit not superfluous either, and plenty of caution and concentration.

24.6. I went from Kranjska Hut to Czech Hut. The path across Žrelo was closed, but I went anyway (hutkeeper said people walked it the previous day). On the path three pitons were pulled out, but on fairly unexposed part, so I continued. At bottom of Žrelo there was one snowfield I crossed with the help of an ice axe. Regards

On Friday my colleague and I walked the mentioned path. Went from cargo cableway along Slovenska to Ledine then across Žrelo to Czech Hut. Protections on entire path excellent. Strongly recommend helmet, as John said self-belay kit not superfluous. Careful crossing snowfield when out of Žrelo heading to Czech Hut. Good luck!

1.9.2008 Hello

I walked there on 16.7.2008. There was lots of snow in the upper part of Žrelo, so my friend and I descended a bit lower (ca. 50 m), where there was a narrower snow band. That part was less dangerous, as the snow was not hard packed.
The whole path is nicely routed.
Regards, Matic

On 17.8.2008 I walked this path. Snow is still present but there was less of it than in these pictures. The path is trodden and there are no issues with crossing.nasmeh

Then my buddies and I always have such "luck" when we go there, that we run into snow. True though, it's not always the same.

Great, then I'll go up, probably this weekend already. I really fear snow avalanches, despite it being trampled, as just the sight of the "spur" down fills me with horror. Hope it'll be ok. Thanks everyone for the answers.nasmehnasmehnasmehnasmeh

Hi!
On Tuesday I plan to hike the tour: Jezersko-Czech Hut-Žrelo-Ledine and back down via Slovenski. What are the conditions like on the mentioned tour? Regards

In Žrelo there's snow, also on the whole path in the upper part you can expect it, so winter gear won't hurt. Special caution in Žrelo, as ice chunks fly everywhere.
Good luck

Ok, Sebanakis, thanks for the info. I always have my helmet on such tours anyway on my head, without crampons and ice axe it won't do?

Maybe you won't need neither crampons nor ice axe, as conditions constantly change. But you need to watch for ice that forms when snow melts and freezes overnight. I personally hope you won't need it.
Good luck

At the Czech hut I was two weekends ago. There's quite some snow and it's slippery too. Then nothing was trampled yet.
So be careful.

On Saturday 18.10 we plan to hike the mentioned tour. Weather forecast is otherwise ok (cloudy). Since we're not very experienced hikers, I wonder if you think under these conditions the path is too dangerous?
Thanks for answers!

Why would the path be dangerous in cloudy weather?! Sun won't burn you for sure on cloudy day, so no need for cream even. To me more important how much snow will fall and how that snow affects your safety. So suggest first and foremost follow weather forecast, then ask questions, otherwise you just embarrass yourselves.
