Mežica - Petzen (Kordeschkopf) (Peca (Kordeževa glava)) (easy path)

Access to the starting point:
From Črna na Koroškem or from Raven na Koroškem, or via the Holmec or Mežica border crossing, drive to the centre of Mežica, where you park in the parking lot next to Trg svobode.

Path description:
From the starting point, take the one-way road that passes the parish church of St James on the left. You will quickly see the first signs along the road, and follow the signs for Peca at the crossroads. After crossing the stream Šumec, leave the road and cross a small wooden bridge and continue slightly right into the forest. There is a short climb through the forest and then you reach a macadam road, which you follow to the end of the left-hand serpentine. After the serpentine, climb through the lane of the forest, then climb along the edge of the forest for a while. In the part where you climb along the edge of the forest, the markings are sparse or absent for a while, but when the path returns to the forest, the markings also return.
Higher up, we reach a small hamlet where the path leads us past a water trough, and we follow the road up to the track of the former ski slope. Here, signs point us left to the ski slope, which we then climb with beautiful views. Higher up, the trail takes us into the woods and then back to the ski slope, which we finally leave just a little further on.
Continue right on cart track, which passes into the forest, and continue ascending diagonally to the right. Climb along this path for some time before reaching the Vrh šteng pass, where there is a marked crossroads and a suitable place for a short rest.
From the top of Šteng, continue along the dirt road towards Dom na Peci (Koča na Pikovem on the left), descending only slightly. The way ahead takes us over a short lookout point, which offers a fine view of the forested Jesenik and the surrounding hills, and past a former border guard post, which we pass on the lower side. A little beyond the guardhouse at Terčov, continue right on the marked cart track (turn right off the road, not the guardhouse), and after a short climb left on a marked footpath. Continue climbing through the forest, and quite quickly arrive at the edge of the larger mountain pasture Rišperk. Here the path turns slightly left and crosses a forest road a few times higher up. Stay on the road higher up and follow it across the slopes to the left to its end, or where it turns into cart track. With cart track a nice view opens up as far as Uršlja gora, and at Tomaževa koča, which is on the left below us, we merge with the path from Podpece. From the crossroads continue right in the route Dom na Peci and continue climbing along the rather steep cart track. Cart track, which then climbs mostly transversely to the left, then follow it all the way to Dom na Peci.
From Dom na Peci continue sharp right towards the top of Peca (straight ahead Jakobe parking lot, right Mala Peca). The way ahead takes us through the forest and crosses a short steep slope, where we are helped by a ropeway (not difficult in dry and dry land). The slope quickly flattens out and we join the trail from the left, which leads over Mala Peca.
Continue over the grassy pass and climb up to a marked crossroads, from where we continue along the easier right-hand path (to the left, the climbing route to Pec). A traverse climb to the right follows, with increasingly beautiful views opening up from the path. In addition to the markings, mountain direction signs, which also serve as winter markings, are quite common further on. Above the slopes of Mihelja Peć, the trail turns slightly to the left and passes onto an undistinguished ridge. The ridge alternates between flat and slightly steeper parts, and at a larger level we are joined by a climbing path on the left.
Continue on the marked path, which once again climbs slightly higher, and then in a moderate ascent, with views of the nearby and distant peaks, a few minutes of further walking leads us to Petzen, the highest peak of Pec.
