Description:
Sant'Apollonia (Ponte di Legno) – After passing the ARTVA check for all participants (as the hike involves risks), at 8:20 we enter the Valle delle Messi intending to reach 'LINGE' (2273 m). The sky is partly cloudy, but the mountain chain overlooking the well-known bivouac shows abundant snow from this mild winter. The white cover of the piste to the intermediate 'Rifugio Valmalza' (1998 m) at 9:45 has also received a last light snowfall. Beside it, the pure-water Frigidolfo stream is still sluggish. Past the refuge, without footprints in the snow, we proceed staying as far as possible from the snowiest slopes. After about forty minutes (when we should be at Linge's level) the fog thickens making it indistinguishable from the snow cover and the hidden bivouac invisible. Thus we halt the ascent and return to the valley. Immersing in the landscape that (lower down) a veiled sun cheers for us, revealing also the peaks of our excursion (1:15 pm).
