Unfortunately, it's lost; thank God it was never really tested in an avalanche. When buying a new one, it puts me in a dilemma about what to buy. From the results of various tests, you quickly realize that most of these shovels are only suitable for children's play in the sandbox. Optically attractive products that mostly fail in practice. Unfortunately, our specialized mountaineering equipment stores are full of them. The only products that got positive ratings in tests are actually of American and Canadian origin, very hard to get here. And since I don't want to carry a shovel just to show that I have it but so that it serves its purpose if I need it, I'm asking for your opinions and experiences with shovels.

Here are some links to the mentioned tests:

On Sunday, early start from Logarska Valley (still before the toll collectors) via Okrešelj and Mrzli Dol to Koroška Rinka (Križ). From Mrzli Dol leads a nice enjoyable via ferrata to Križ. Below me a sea of clouds up to ca. 1500 meters, above that fantastic weather. On the top even without wind. After refreshment and short rest, descent and then ascent also to Kranjska Rinka. On the top already quite windy, so I didn't linger much. Again descent then short ascent to Štajerska Rinka, from there also descent to Mala Rinka and along the ridge toward the entrance to Turski Žleb. At the entrance to Turski Žleb I part from the sun for a while and follows torturous descent on scree all the way to the wall where I enter the secured part. Follows descent on ledges and pegs and they run out too quickly, back on scree. Pack safety gear in backpack, drink last drop of water and quickly to the hut at Okrešelj. Little rest then one Radler fits, then descent to the valley and home. Protections on the path are impeccable, both on Križ and in Turski Žleb.

I don't know if it's in a guidebook. I did it like this: Okrešelj - direction Savinjsko sedlo - in Mrzli dol turn left to the secured alpine path to Križ (Koroška rinka) - from the top descend to the other side towards Turska gora and below the summit turn right towards Kranjska rinka - traverse the slope of Koroška rinka and up the path to the top of Kranjska - then back the same path, descend to the saddle between Križ and Štajerska rinka and up to the top of Štajerska - then down to Mala rinka and continue to Turski žleb - through Turski žleb descent direction Okrešelj. A bit late report but anyway. 11.07. me and Drago started at 5 pm from Vrata towards bivouac IV. After three hours of non-stop rain we arrived at bivouac. Thank God no Czechs there, but could see that recently "mummy's boys" camped who don't clean up after themselves. Bivouac OK otherwise, firewood there too so we dried wet gear. Morning 8 am off in nice sunny day towards Skrlatica, but after about an hour clouds and mist gather, so at climbing section entry the summit already in fog. At 10 on top, photos, sandwich and back down. No sun or great views this time of course. Protections all fine everywhere, no other issues. On return filled water at spring above snowfield, 5 min walk below climbing entry to Skrlatica. Picked up second backpack at bivouac and at 5 pm back in Vrata. Nice tour.

Yesterday to Dleskovec from Planina Ravne. Road to Planina normally drivable. From Planina Ravne continued to Sedlec on marked path (warning: marks in very poor condition) then to summit. Snow starts at cca. 1600 m, still plenty. Most of the path postholing to knees, in windblown spots to waist, walking very strenuous. Summit greeted with snow and wind, quick turn back to valley.

I was yesterday on Gonžarjeva peč. All protections ok, but I advise against "climbing" until the rain eases and the wall and bypass path dry well. I climbed it twice, then gave up because of the deposited mud it was super slippery. lp

@ikx - you understood correctly, but with crampons and ice axe in the backpack. Regards

I was up there today from Matizovca. Snow starts at cca. 1800 meters. It is nicely drifted on the path about 10 to 20 cm, soft and non-problematic for walking. Greater caution is needed off the path, as grasses are icy in places and very slippery. Views today worse due to clouds and cold wind blowing. From Vv crossed to Toplar then to Kofce peak, from Kofce peak down western gully straight to hiking path for Kofce. At Kofce obligatory marenda - excellent cheese strudelnasmeh Then descent back to Matizovca.

klm -probably not a problem with kg if you're thinking of that fallen one. I have 107 myself and climbed it today in 15 minutesvelik nasmeh

Now more seriously. To all who go into this ferrata but are at odds with squats and similar activities for good physical condition, I warmly advise against it. But if you know how to climb on friction too it's definitely welcome, and if you self-belay and don't look for holds on the wall it's quite painful for the hands. Otherwise really nice learning or training polygon and all praise to PD Vinski gori for excellent work.

@zvončnica - sherpa is a male name so I'm not a girl, women down there are sherpanis nasmeh

Škis's pictures are really telling, so no comment needed and thank God only two attached not fifty, which apart from sunny have nothing in common with conditions. Anyway if you all survive I will too.
šerpa9. 04. 2011 23:27:23
I have nothing against photos in some reasonable scope, if along with that the condition or conditions on the path are also given, which most users are also interested in. We each have a little sea of such photos in the archive. Does it make sense to upload everything up here?

@zvončnica - in what way was my previous post offensive?
šerpa8. 04. 2011 06:23:08
kapca81, get real - this forum ain't Google's Picasa. You uploaded 50 pics about conditions but not a single word. Read again what this forum is primarily for mrk pogled

Great Edina, can you say something more about the conditions? lp

I was yesterday on Grintovec from Konca. Snow starts somewhere at the forest border and up to Kokrsko sedlo it is fully windblown already in the morning too, so due to wading and falling into holes trampling becomes quite demanding. Further from the saddle snow held in places, elsewhere not. Really good conditions especially in the lower half of the roof where snow was windblown on the surface but overall held. Already in the upper half of the roof conditions changeable again. At the top wonderful day, initially slightly windy, later the breeze also calmed, so it was great. At the top quite a few people who took time to enjoy... Return in rodeo style, a bit forward a bit back then into a hole, sliding, jump nasmeh

I won't discuss crampon use, but they are necessary at least in the backpack. The whole tour in such southern conditions requires quite a bit of fitness and is quite strenuous, which some experienced on their own skin yesterday. Some pics later... cheers

Yeah, conditions in Turski couloir today aren't really for "cheering". Especially in the upper half of the couloir there are lots of windblown snow and crust that gives way, lower down unconsolidated snow. In one part below the summit snow is scoured to hard, partly icy base. The upper part had strong wind blowing too, some turned back because of it. Otherwise there were quite a few people up there today (even some with crampons, no ice axejezen).
šerpa26. 02. 2011 19:08:22
Today's conditions: on Turska gora, from exit of Turski žleb onwards new snow mostly blown off, base however especially below summit mostly icy so need to be quite careful and very strong wind was blowing.

Conditions through Turski žleb see under Rinka.

Unfortunately on Turska today again accidentmrk pogled
