I've long wanted to visit the namesake of our Snežnik, which lives a bit across the border. To make the most of the day we combined the path with cycling and visited neighboring Guslica too. On Guslica there are remains of a JLA relay station and a 4-story bunker.

Tour de Snežnik. A beautiful circular tour around Snežnik. Land of wildlife, birches, war remnants and above all endless forests. Start from Leskova Valley along Jurjeva Road to Vala Valley. From there north to Grčovec and across Snežnik Road past Grde Jame to Pekel and to Mašun.

Kilimanjaro, highest free-standing mountain in the world. Sounds like something unconquerable, but it was at the same time one of my easiest and hardest mountains. At height 5000+ the head sees a gentle path, the heart would rush to the top, but the body simply can't manage. "Pole pole" is the slogan of walking on Kilimanjaro - slowly, slowly in Swahili! That's also the only real way to truly savor those precious moments, especially the short spectacle of sunrise on top of Kilimanjaro. Some photos attached, more on the Facebook link. A bit late but anyway ... Saturday Lepenatka - circular along the road from sv. Lenart over Kal along the cleared ridge to the top and slide back along the marked path to the hide. From there by road back to the car. Snow was a bit too little for relaxed sliding, but that will probably change now with the new batch.

First snow fell, so right to mountains thanking snow gods for modest white powder shipment. On Dovška Baba cover still too thin for real freeride fun, but day didn't spare fantastic views at all.

Over the weekend to Veliki vrh via Dleskovec. Weather and conditions fantastic. Not much will change in one week, maybe a meter more of road will be open ... with car up to the viewpoint with wooden bench (on road to planina Ravne).

On Snežnik, skiing from Sviščaki along the hiking trail is the worst choice. The traverse from the hut to the ridge is often icy and yesterday some almost fell. Some poles flew into the basin below the hut, the owner managed to hold on. A snowboarder fared the worst, who tried to cross this traverse and due to his own mistake or inexperience slipped and ended up on the plain below in a couple of seconds. Luckily there's really a lot of snow and the terrain is mostly smoothed out, so he got up and rode towards Sviščaki.
We skied the southern side, where there's mostly wind-blown snow, just a bit of ice that's easy to cross. From the forest edge ascent to Mali Snežnik and from there west through forest and clearings to Grda draga. From Grda draga it's a short walk along the road to the car at Sviščaki.

Friend said well, Zelenica is mountaineer's BTC city. You get everything needed in winter, from gentle sledding to steep gullies I can't even name and most won't ski.
Central gully from about 1800 up in fog, but so nicely smooth that poor visibility not big obstacle.
Snow below Zelenica already very wet and nasty, except ratrak path. Between Zelenica and clouds pure poetry for me.

In search of sunshine we went from Matajur village to Matajur. Bora accompanied us from home most of the path, on Matajur it almost left us alone. Thus a beautiful day was made and Matajur offered great views. For Matajur's modest slopes also quite good skiing.

A bit late post, pre-Christmas Snežnik.
But it was really nice. Splitboard ascent to the top and one descent to the north side, to Smrekova draga. Then again to the top and descent to the south side, with slalom and obstacle course among the bushes. From there short ascent back to the path and slide down the road to Sviščaki.

Mountaineering Association Cerknica reports that the path leading from Cerknica to the Dom na Slivnici is open again. At the same time they warn about active forestry rehabilitation works in the area of the mentioned hiking trail.

Currently several hiking trails are closed. Information about them can be found at www.stanje-poti.pzs.si.

Actually no, it even helps me with balance and on short flat parts I can push myself forward a bit.

As long as coprn'ce are still sleeping, they let us have snow joys.
Snowboard and Slivnica, really nothing special, but if I have it almost at home.
