Timios Stavros / Psiloritis (Kreta)

Description of mountain:
Timios Stavros is Crete's highest mountain at 2,456 meters and also the highest among the Greek islands. Due to its topographic prominence, it is also on the Ultra list. In terms of prominence, it is the top in Greece, followed by Greece's highest peak Mytikas at 2,918 m with a topographic prominence of 2,353 m.

Timios Stavros is the name of the summit and chapel; the entire massif is called Psiloritis (Gr. Ψηλορείτης). The mountain is also known as Ida (Eng. Mount Ida).

Among nearby peaks, Agathias (Gr. Αγκαθιάς) at 2,424 m follows, located 30 minutes' walk to the southeast, and Stolistra (Gr. Στολίστρα) at 2,325 m to the northwest. The Aegean Sea is visible to the north in the distance, and the Libyan Sea to the south.

In the neighboring Lefka Ori range (Gr. Λευκά Όρη), about 100 km to the west on Crete, Pahnes (Gr. Πάχνες) competes with it; also on the Ultra list, it stands at 2,453 m, just three meters lower than Psiloritis, though some measurements suggest the difference is even smaller, and in the event of stronger seismic activity, the title of Crete's highest mountain could change in the future.
