Access to the starting point:
The Valbonë Valley is located in the harder to reach north-eastern part of Albania, and is best reached from the west by a long, several-hour drive on a very winding and sometimes bad road from Skadar via Pukë and Bajram Curri. Part of the journey can be made by ferry on Lake Komani (in this case, do not go via Pukë).
In the Valbonë valley there is a town of the same name. The starting point for the climb is at the left-hand bend shortly after the Bujtina Hotel. At the start of the trail there is a large wooden sign marking the start of the trail to the top of Maja e Rosit. Park on the roadside.
Path description:
From the signpost marking the way to the top of Maja e Rosit, we cross a wide gravel area of the torrent bed. The crossing is made easier by improvised bridges. On the other side of the riverbed, we catch the path upwards. A moderate ascent in a north-westerly direction leads to the hamlet of Kukaj. 0:45.
Leave the valley trail here and head steeply right (north-east) up towards the summit of Maja e Rosit, the fork is not properly marked. At the beginning the path is open, but soon you are in the forest. The path winds steeply through the forest, the views of the Valbone valley becoming more and more impressive. In the last few minutes, the terrain opens up and in a slight switchback to the right, a viewpoint is reached.
