Access to the starting point:
a) Drive to Kočevje, then continue driving to Delnice. Before Colnarji, turn left towards the castle Kostel, and we pass through the villages Delač, Stelnik and Kostel to Gorenja Žaga, where the route described above starts at the Žaga camp. Park in a suitable place nearby.
b) From Vinica or Črnomelj, drive to the Old Market Square by the Kolpa River, where you turn left towards Prelesje. Then descend towards the Kolpa valley and when you reach the road leading along the river, turn right. Follow the river to the village Gorenja Žaga, where you turn right towards the Žaga camp and Kostel Castle. Just 20 metres further on, you will reach a crossroads with information boards, where the route described above begins. Park in a suitable place nearby.
Path description:
From the starting point, take the road in the direction of the Kostel Castle (start on the road you came from, if you have reached the starting point as described in a), where you first climb slowly, but quickly and quite steeply, along the asphalt road. Higher up, you pass a few houses and then the road reaches a ridge, where you take a sharp left before the ghats.
The road continues past a cross, a few houses and apartments, and after the apartments the road turns right and climbs steeply. At the information board of the Kostel Tourist and Sports Association, it turns sharp left, and the cobbled path leads to a few more houses in Kostel, and we continue to the left in front of them towards the castle. The path continues past the Church of the Three Kings in Kostel on the left, followed by some more stairs behind the church, and we arrive at Kostel Castle, with its increasingly beautiful views. We continue through the castle entrance to where the lookout tower used to stand, from where we get a beautiful view.
There is an entrance fee for the castle.
