Gaber pri Semiču - Smuk (via Smuška cesta)

Access to the starting point:
a) From the Ljubljana - Brežice motorway, take the Ivančna Gorica exit, then continue driving towards Črnomelj. After Črmošnjice, the road climbs for a short time and then begins to descend steeply. At the end of the long right turn, where you will see the sign "Welcome to Bela krajina" on the retaining wall, turn left and then immediately right. Park about 50 metres ahead in a suitable space above the mountain direction signs.
b) From the Brežice - Ljubljana motorway, take the Novo mesto exit, then continue in the direction of Dolenjske Toplice and Podturno near Dolenjske Toplice. In Podturno, join the main road Ivančna Gorica - Črnomelj, and follow it to the left in the direction of Črnomelj. After Črmošnjice, the road climbs for a short time and then starts to descend more steeply. At the end of a long right turn, where you will see a sign on a retaining wall saying "Welcome to Bela krajina", turn left and then immediately right. Park about 50 metres ahead in a suitable space above the mountain direction signs.
c) From Bela krajina, first drive to Semič, then continue to Črmošnjice and Soteska. Before reaching the left turn with the sign "Hello in Bela krajina", leave the main road at Gaber near Semič and turn right and immediately right again onto the Smuška cesta. Park about 50 metres further on in a suitable space above the mountain direction signs.

Path description:
From the starting point, walk to the mountain direction signs, and from there continue along the Smuška cesta in the direction of Smuka. At first, walk along the asphalt road, which quickly leads to a few houses. Here the road descends slightly and leads to a point where a path branches off to the left towards the Church of St Primož and Felicijan, the Semenič peak and Smuk over the Semenič peak.
Continue straight ahead here and continue along the asphalt road, which continues to lead above the vineyards. With beautiful views of the White Landscape and the surrounding hills, continue past several houses and then arrive at a marked crossroads, where you continue slightly left in the direction of the footpath to Smuk (slightly right Smuk - access by car). From here, continue along the asphalt road for a short distance, then it turns to macadam behind the last house. Continue along the gently sloping forest road, which is joined just a little higher up by a path from the railway station in Semič. Continue along the rather winding path for a few minutes, then reach a small crossroads, from where you turn slightly right in the direction of Smuk (slightly left Semenič). The forest road climbs moderately further and a path joins from the left, leading from the church of St. Primož and Felicijan via Semenič to Smuk.
The path continues along a slightly steeper road, which quickly leads to a marked crossroads, from where it continues towards Smuk. Leave the road here and pass through the lane of a forest to reach the panoramic grassy hay meadows of Smuk, over which you will reach the top of Smuk in less than 5 minutes' walk.
