Dom v Iškem Vintgarju - Klada (E6 European long distance path)

Access to the starting point:
From the southern Ljubljana ring road, take the exit for the Rudnik industrial zone, then continue towards Ig. At the main roundabout in Igo, turn right (direction Iški Vintgar and Iška vas), and we continue along the main road towards Ischke Vintgar. When you get to Iški Vintgar, park in the first marked parking lot on the right hand side.

Path description:
From the parking lot, walk back along the main road for 100 metres to the road bridge over the River Ischka. Here, signs for Krvava Peč and Kurešček direct you across the bridge and then right past some houses. At the last house, go down a small flight of steps to the right to the Ischka riverbed. Continue along the riverbed for a few metres and then come to a narrow private bridge where there is a crossroads.

The marked path towards Kureščko and Krvava Peč continues straight ahead here, and we take a sharp left at cart track. cart track soon starts to climb steeply and we will see yellow and red markings on the trees, indicating the European Footpath E6. After an initial climb, cart track turns left and then runs parallel to the River Ischka. Here you follow the relatively sloping cart track, which later becomes a road. The road then leads past a few houses and becomes asphalted. Continue along the narrow asphalted road to a large chapel, behind which you will see a faded marking on a tree, which directs you to the right onto a driveway towards a residential house.

At the house, continue right into the woods on the steep cart track, at which you will see a faded marker. The path then climbs quite steeply for some time on the slightly overgrown cart track, and along the way you will rarely see any yellow and red markings indicating the E6 route. The path continues to climb steeply for some time in long switchbacks, and then leads to slightly flatter terrain. Further on, the trail follows a mostly unpaved path through the forest towards the south-east. Later, a dirt road will be seen through the forest on the left. Our route continues along the poorly beaten track for some time before joining the dirt road.

Continue right along the dirt road and soon reach an unmarked crossroads. The road to Krvava Peč and Mokrec leads off to the right, and we turn left onto the dirt road leading to the village of Škrilje. Here you will occasionally see red and yellow markings along the road. Continue along this road until you reach the first house on the right-hand side of the road.
At the crossroads, turn right onto the narrow road towards the house, next to which there is a sign saying "private path". At the house, turn right onto cart track, which begins to descend gently through the forest. Follow the above-mentioned cart track for a while, and then the yellow and red markings at two successive crossroads will direct you left. Further on, the grassy cart track leads out of the woods and then runs along the edge of the woods on the left-hand side of a large clearing where there are several hunting observation posts. Here we also get some views of the slopes of Mokrc Peak. The slightly less visible path then turns to the left and climbs slightly to a bench at the edge of the forest, where you can also see the E6 trail markers on a tree.

At the bench, continue left along cart track, which again passes through the forest. The trail then leads past a stacking yard and a small quarry, and then leads to the first houses in the village of Škrilje. The road soon becomes asphalted and we continue through the village. The path through the village is not marked, but keep straight ahead or slightly left at the crossroads. Soon you will come to a junction with the main road where you will see a bus station on the opposite side. Cross the road carefully and continue straight ahead along the narrow road past the bus stop. Continue walking through the village of Škrilje, at the crossroads above the firemen's lodge continue straight ahead and the road soon leads to the chapel where you can see the yellow and red markings again.

At the chapel, we turn onto a dead-end street, and at the last house on the left, where we reach a crossroads, we have to be careful. A tarmac road leads up to a few more houses on the right, a nice cart track leads straight ahead through the woods, and we take a slightly more left turn onto a rather overgrown cart track, by which we quickly spot a marking on a tree. The overgrown path descends a little, then turns left and crosses a small stream along which, unfortunately, we can see a lot of litter. The path then leads us out of the woods for a short time and onto a meadow, where we join a slightly nicer path.

The path then leads us back into the forest where it turns right and crosses slightly steeper slopes, mostly to the east, in a descent. Continue to cross the slopes on a poorly trodden path with a few fallen trees. The path ascends and descends gently from time to time, crossing two small streams in between. Later, the narrow path leads us through more bushes and then leads us back to the slightly wider cart track. Cart track soon drops slightly, leads through a short clearing and then leads to the village Klada where it joins the asphalted road.
Continue right along the road through the village, and at the main crossroads in the village you can continue straight ahead following the signs "Sarsko, Ig" and continue along the E6 to the chapel at the end of the village. From the meadow by the chapel, we have a beautiful view towards the Krim and Kamnik Savinja Alps
If you have not organised transport, you must return the way you came. You can also return to Škrilje by road.
