Access to the starting point:
a) Leave the Gorenjska motorway at exit Lesce, then follow the signs for Bled and Bohinj. Shortly before the end of Bled, leave the main road towards Bohinj and continue slightly to the right in the direction of the bivouac. After about 1. 5 km of further driving, you will arrive at the bivouac Bled, where you park at the edge of the bivouac in a pay parking lot. The price is EUR 3/h (November 2019).
b) Drive to Bohinjska Bistrica, then continue driving to Bled. At the beginning of Bled, turn left in the direction of bivouac Bled. After approximately 1. 5 km of further driving, you will arrive at the bivouac Bled, where you will park at the edge of the bivouac in a pay parking lot. The price is EUR 3/h (November 2019).
Path description:
From the parking lot, walk to the lake and then turn left (the route below is described in clockwise direction, if you continue to the right you will walk in the opposite direction).
The way ahead is along a narrow asphalt road that runs directly along the western shore of the lake. The winding path repeatedly opens up a beautiful view of the lake and the Bled Island with the Church of the Assumption, and the path gradually passes to Mala Zaka, where you pass the Olympic Rowing Centre Bled, after which you arrive on the northern shore of the lake. At a few crossroads, continue to the right, following the footpath that leads along the lakeside, which leads to the cliffs at the top of which stands Bled Castle. Here, one of the paths leading to the castle branches off, and we continue along the lake, getting closer and closer to the point of Bled.
Keeping to the right-hand forks (the exceptions are the forks leading onto private land), we reach the eastern shore, where we reach the lakeside hotels. The hotels are bypassed on the lower side and the scenic route along the lake ascends gently to the main road Bled - Bohinj, along the edge of which you continue for some time. At the foot of hill Straža, walk parallel to the road, and when the main road to Bohinj moves away from the lake, continue along the path that leads to the right of Villa Bled, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Bled Island and Bled Castle. Walk along the pleasant footpath for a while and then approach the road leading to the Zaka bivouac. Continue along the road for a short distance and then descend the wooden stairs to the path at the edge of the lake. After a few minutes, we return to the edge of the road and then continue past the judges' tower to Velika Zaka, where we started and finished the trail.
Description and pictures refer to the situation in December 2020.
