Vratca above the Czech Hut

Today I set off from Jezersko via Štularjeva planina to the Czech Hut. I continued the ascent towards Vratca. 15 minutes below the summit the path led me into a steep but well secured gully. The path through the gully is exposed to falling rocks so helmet is mandatory. At the top of the gully the path turns right and via a slightly exposed traverse leads to the summit slope of the mountain. The last meters are quite steep but increasingly scenic. At the top a Slovenian flag is hung, under it two logbooks, one is empty. Best, Tadej.

And this snowfall has dumped some snow, could one still go higher this weekend (which is supposed to be nice)? Of course without any special winter gear. Nice greetings

Still take winter gear with you, better safe than sorry! Otherwise shouldn't be too big a problem, given the amount of precipitation! Safe steps Nice greetings

To the Czech hut it's nicely passable, further up you'll need to wade a bit. Vratca are right on the edge of the last snowfall, so snow today was soft as it was 4 degrees in the hut. Tomorrow snow will be harder and better for walking, caution needed in the gully. Good luck

Tonek7, are you maybe from Jezersko area? Will you report on conditions in Povna valley in winter...? Tomaž

for Povnovo still quite some snow needs to fall then it needs a bit of settling then it'll be good for skiing that's probably what you mean

What are the current conditions at the Czech Hut. Is there any ice or are good boots enough.

Today towards the summit or hut there's some ice but you can avoid it as the trail is wide enough. Good especially warm boots will be sufficient. But since temps are around zero (minus today plus tomorrow) there are quite some mixed (snow, rocks) avalanches. So gullies like Žrelo and similar are quite dangerous.

Yesterday 31.10.2009 after a long time back in the mountains. From the cargo cable car we headed towards the Czech Hut. Although it was dry, caution is needed on the forest path as leaves cover frozen roots. Also the steps that are a great help in summer were frozen and very slippery. From the Czech Hut we headed towards Vratca. Rocks on the scree were very slippery due to frost, and the fixed cables were very cold and slippery too. Although we were looking for sun all the time, we didn't catch it as it was only on the tops of surrounding mountains. Although we could only look at the sun and not feel it, it was very nice Branči and Nives

At the start of the path to Vratca there was still some snow today. In the difficult section helmet is recommended because it's very crumbly. There were quite a few visitors, especially at the Czech Hut. Views were nice and despite cloudiness it was a nice day spent in the mountains

On a sunny Saturday Vratca weren't very visited. At least according to the summit logbook it was recorded that way. Okrešelj-Savinjsko sedlo-Ledine-Czech Hut-Vratca and nicely back to Okrešelj and to the valley. Nice and a bit longer path.

Where does the new path to Vratca run?

The new path from the Czech Hut direction is approx 100 meters higher than the junction of the old path and runs across the scree, joining the old steeper path just below Vratca. But no significant difference in path length.
