Today my colleague and I headed from Sredji vrh towards Vošca. I must say, the cairns guided us almost the whole way. Almost no snow except in the shade and on top, where there is, it's not icy. The day was nice, just slightly windy.

Is the winter ascent to Vošca suitable for an average mountaineer? Usually in winter I visit Dobrča, Kriška gora, Kališče etc. Interested in comparison. Thanks, bye Gašper

The "difficulty" of Vošca is similar to the hills you listed. Only fewer people on the path ; the path is suitable also for children (tested).

The difference is that the paths you mentioned are marked, the path to Vošca is not. If snow falls and there are no trodden tracks yet, and there's so much snow that it's hard to see where a cart track or path goes, orientation problems can arise. Otherwise, it's a very nice path, not to mention the views

Today we slept really "vacation-like" looong, breakfasted even later and set off on the path only at midday. This time to Vošca. First reason for the chosen goal: they mention it as a "panoramic balcony"…. Second reason: we assumed nice weather would lure many people to the mountains and we sought a less crowded and solitary goal… Third reason: I wanted to visit Vošca in winter; since all paths are unmarked, we wanted to check the paths in summer conditions so it would be easier in winter even without tracks…
We parked a bit above the village Srednji vrh and ascended to the top past Jurež and Jureževa planina. Against expectations, the path is not exactly a "stroll"; in under two hours, one has to overcome almost 800 elevation meters. At the top though…. who'd think such a "little fellow" boasts such divine views that really take your breath away…
Allow me to quote Klinar, who says about Vošca: "More gentle, more generous, more from hidden love acting maternal mid-mountains are soon nowhere else in the Karawanks." And we agree with him without hesitation.
We descended northeast to Vratca, accidentally "missed" the path to Zajčnik , because a nice forest path on the Austrian side tempted us and suddenly we found ourselves on Blekova planina. From there, just descent over Hude hlevi and along the Jerman stream back to Srednji vrh. Wonderful half-day tour!

From morning heavenly blue in Ljubljana, I drive to the whitened Upper Sava Valley to Srednji vrh. In the morning I catch some mountain motifs, later clouds do their thing.
I don't decide for Trupejevo poldne because of southern snow and the valley path in Železnica, so I head to Jurež and on to Jureževa planina, where I take my own direct variant to Vošca. Solid snow starts at 1300m, at 1600m already over 40cm or to the knees. Heavy for walking, with snowshoes a bit less. I break trail to the summit, look around a bit, then due to worsening weather head down. At Jureževa planina a snow flurry forms, which provides idyll. Real winter in the mountains, which seems quite strange so soon after summer, but it is. Nice solitary hike, which offers beautiful views and safe from avalanches.

Nice. Just a few days ago it was purely autumnal. By the way: Does anyone know why Železnica is called that? Probably never a railway track there. Or? :-)

In the Etymological Dictionary (published 2009), whose author is Marko Snoj, it says that the basis of names Železniki, Železno, Železna Kapla, Železnica, Železna Gora etc. ... is iron. Detailed explanation can be read in the dictionary on pp. 487 and 488.

Yes really, that needs to be figured out. Probably Gorazd could tell.
Otherwise it's a fact that in history across the entire area of western Karavanke they mined ore, for transport narrow-gauge railways served. (At least) one supposedly even led to/from Begunjščica.
History of Karavanke is thus quite colorful and certainly interesting. Above Jesenice (Sava caves) it was once -literally- crazy (more narrow-gauge railways than roads today).
..Well, we think we live in a time of some development. I fear we're only in the time "after development" ..

I know about that track to Begunjščica, also the mine along the path over Roža, and also the famous mines above Jesenice. But for the area around Trupejevo poldne I never heard there was any mine there. (Which of course doesn't mean there never was one.)

I was up there before the penultimate snowfall. Already then snow line was quite high, around 1300m, on top 45cm snow. Now probably snowed above 1500m. Snow up top froze, melted, then thickened again with last batch, so by my estimate last 200m to top quite some, there 25cm old southern + about 20cm new. Think past farm Jurež already trodden at least to Jureževa planina, further you'll see how it goes. If group of at least two adults, no problem to break trail to top.

After checking webcams not even on Dobrač at 1700m there's snow anymore, so rain destroyed it completely to bare ground, so wish you nice autumn walk to Vošca!

I don't know why such stupid questions!
If for a month already 80% of days rain, the terrain is harder dry.
Otherwise the soil is dry as pepper

Dry terrain won't be possible at least until end of next week.
Path to Vošca you can't miss. First go on asphalt road from Srednji vrh left to last Bio farm Jurež. There turn past farm right uphill, where cross on hayfields another planšar hut. Here straight first on cart track to forest, where cross wooden barrier of pasture. Ahead path very visible. After less than hour ascent right hear Smeča spring, go straight to upper hayfield. Continue straight and above cross parallel forest road from Korensko sedlo to Železnica. On road turn right direction and after few 100m right below notice Jureževa pl. 1488m. From here above pl. and road notice weak cart track and stick to it to upper slopes of Vošca. From there summit not far. Good luck!

I don't expect dry path, but from experience I know some places more soggy regardless of rain. By the way, thanks for reminding me bad weather for some time already.
