Velika Baba, Mrzla gora

Print
Rok7. 08. 2007 10:57:06
Yesterday I went via Jenkova planina to Velika Baba (2127m). In the upper part the path goes along a narrow ridge, which is quite steep and exposed in some places, so a little caution isn't superfluous.

From the top I then descended to Jezersko sedlo. This path is a bit steeper just below the summit of V. Baba, but compared to the one along the northern ridge easy. From Jezersko sedlo I continued to Savinjsko sedlo and then along the marked path to Mrzla gora (2203m). This path is somewhat more demanding than the one to V. Baba. The path is steep and exposed, with very few safety features.

I returned via Jezersko sedlo and then past the hut at Ledine to the valley.

LP Rok.

Hi Rok!
Can you describe the path from Jezersko sedlo to the top of V.Baba a bit more in detail (difficulty?). Does it really go on the Austrian side?
Thanks!

From Jezersko sedlo it first goes to the Austrian side (easy path). A bit below the summit it joins a very demanding path from Koča na Ledinah (direct path - Slovenian side). From there towards the summit a slightly steeper path, which didn't seem demanding to me.
Two more pics from the upper part of the path:

On the left you see the path from Austrian side, right from the gully very demanding from Slovenian side.

Hi!
I see you know the paths around here quite well, so I'd ask you to briefly describe the path to Križ or Koroška Rinka (preferably circular). Nice regards!

I haven't been on the climbing path to Rinke yet, so someone else could say more about that path. But you can do a circular e.g. from Okrešelj over Turski žleb to Križ and back via climbing path.
Circular path also possible from Kamniška Bistrica. Up via Gamsov skret down via Žmavčarje.
Via Žmavčarje: http://www.hribi.net/pot.asp?gorovjeid=3&id=387&potid=535
Via Gamsov skret: http://www.hribi.net/pot.asp?gorovjeid=3&id=390&potid=747
The described path via Gamsov skret leads to bivouac below Grintovec. To go to Rinke turn right when reaching marked path.

The climbing path to Rinke is very nice to me personally. The part to the junction with the path from Ledine is very demanding. Quite some vertical climbing on reliable safety gear. The path is super secured. Towards the summit it is more crumbly. Partly along an exposed ledge. Towards the summit there are some cables. One is a bit loose while one has the lower peg torn off, so you just hang on the cable. Altogether not overly demanding (not for those with vertigo).

Is it true that the path from Matkov kot is poorly marked?

15.09.07 Velika Koroška Baba

Ravenska Kočna(car)-Jenkova pl.-over ridge - incl V.Baba - Jezersko sedlo - Ledine - car.
7 hrs (with wife, 40 dia pics and sightseeing)
Extraordinary one-day circular tour (in my Top 5 here), extraordinary views, varied hiking-climbing, for mountaineering enthusiasts like us the upper level of effort (with reserve, of course).
But really needs extraordinary concentration and care crossing the ridge and ascent to Mala Baba. NOT for kids and less experienced.

When it's warm, one has to go to the Babesvelik nasmeh (they say it's easier to conquer them when they are not cold mežikanje), and it is true what is written in the path description via Jenkova planina, that if you catch it in the wrong place it can throw you downmrk pogled.
Early in the morning I started from Ravenska kočna via Jenkova planina (being early, I had the privilege of wiping all the dew from the grasszavijanje z očmi), as the path is poorly trodden. On the ridge more care is needed because it is crumbly in some places. The path has no cables or pegs. Return via Jezersko sedlo to Ledine and along the hunting path to the valley. Full praise to those who maintain this path; it is very well kept.

I'm wondering if anyone went up the climbing route recently? Particularly interested in those snow patches supposed to last well into summer?
Thanks for the answer and safe steps to younasmeh

today I went via the Slovenian route to Ledine and further to Rinke, at the sign ZA BABE I read that the path is closed today due to path renovation. I was heading to Rinke, Skuta, Dolgi hrbet, Mlinarsko sedlo and Češka koča, and of course to the car in the valley; it was long but unforgettable. Snow still a bit. Good luck on the path!

Is the path closed from Ledine or Savinjsko sedlo?

With Nino we went up the climbing route 14 days ago and snow patches were nasty; on first had to go to wall, descend below snow level and climb out, on second worse as snow was a meter from wall so checked solidity first then leaned on wall walked to cable pulled into wall (very unusual!). Ferrata continuation no problem, return over Jezersko sedlo. Conditions probably changed!! @robi14 if path closed likely from Ledine as renewing protections none from Savin.sedlo! Lp

Yes path closed from Ledine. Call Kranjska koča on Ledine before going.
