To the hut at Okrešelj (1396 m) had to carry skis, as lower no snow, path icy in places. To gully entrance possible on skis, later had to strap to backpack again due to steepness that doesn't ease up to the top. Conditions good, high temps softened snow somewhat even in gully though sun doesn't reach there. Ascent was anything but boring and monotonous, as falling rocks require great caution! After exiting gully less than 20 min walk to Turska Mountain. Descent along approach route all way to Savinja river spring (1310 m). The report is already 8 days old, so conditions might have changed in between (there were some precipitations). On "April Fools' Day" we set off for Turska Mountain through the gully. Start a few minutes before 6 from Logarska. It was still cold at first, but with altitude and the awakening sun it got warmer and warmer. Conditions in the gully were simply ideal. Track made, hard base on which crampons gripped well, not overfrozen and not too soft, and at least in the larger part calm. Well, in the upper part of the gully and then all the way to the top some wind, still not too bad. At the first step some more "playing" with winter technique, roped walking and stopping with ice axe... and brutal realization that seemingly ideal conditions in the gully can be quite dangerous on fall. Large crystals that hold poorly together, which gives the ice axe pick very little support when arresting. So on "school" way I probably wouldn't stop at all, but had to do it the wrong way (drove front teeth of crampons into the ground). Of course it wasn't a real fall, just training and sliding speed was small... but such a thing still makes you think. Right after exit from the gully in the sun already completely southern snow. On Okrešelj people like on sweaty weekends.

Yesterday's nice Saturday my buddy and I used to visit Turska gora. Early morning from Logarska valley towards Okrešelj and further towards Kamnik saddle. Just before entering the secured part of the path we went right towards Kotliči. Snow on the marked path to the entry into the climbing part, minimal. There we put on winter gear and went right towards Kotliči. Still huge amounts of snow, lots of falling rocks, also one bigger slide noticed from the direction of Turska gora. Snow was very hard only locally new snow cover up to 5 cm thick. At Kotliči crossing to the west side towards the marked path. Conditions mix of dry, soft snow and ice. Before entering Sod without bottom, huge snow, so I bypassed Sod on rock while buddy "broke" Sod and somehow pushed through it. At the top of Turska gora still sun then a cloud enveloped us, which quite complicated the descent towards Turski gully, because couldn't see even 2 meters in front of nose. Biggest problem on descent to gully, wind-packed new snow that made snowballs. Descent through Turski back to Okrešelj. Conditions in gully, upper part some new snow, middle icy, exit completely southern. And of course rock and ice bombardment from M. Rinka wall. Safe.

What are the snow conditions from Logarska valley - over Kotliči or through Turkish gully?

UrOs_95, pictured today, Turkish gully from above. I didn't go through it myself, but from Konec via Žmavčarji. In the gully there is snow. Elsewhere sparse snow patches could be bypassed or crossed without issues. Didn't need winter gear.

Through Kotliče you have poorer conditions due to landslide, unless you climb up the scree Kotliška grapa (from Okrešelj direction) Good luck

Yesterday through Turski zleb - still lots of snow, winter gear mandatory. I went directly up the gully to the exit, down I wanted to descend a bit via ferrata, a bit on snow, but 2x close encounter with stone from above, plus "grinding" crampons on rock not pleasant, so midway through the gully continued descent down the middle

On the path between Brana and Turska gora near lowest point/saddle dangerous section. Obviously avalanche, torn cables, unstable pegs, crumbly sand on rocks hinders grip, path practically gone. 20m distance

How is the condition through the gully? Passable without winter gear already?

Went through Turski zleb 5.7.2017 and fully passable. Upper part bit eroded and slippery to walk

Path over Boštjanca to Turska gora open again! Yesterday 29.7.2017 we concluded two-day joint action of PZS maintainers in Boštjanca landslide area. Path closed from 23.5.2017 and not maintained before due to landslide activity. First part done already 20.7.2017 by two maintainers led by chief Zdravko Bodlaj, one active member and one alpinist PD Kamnik. Did rock blasting on active rock landslide part and trail cleaning on damaged protections section. Yesterday and today under chief leadership repaired damaged path section. Participated four maintainers PD Kamnik, one PD Bajtar and one PD Domžale. For safety PD Kamnik president personally rigged fixed rope at landslide site as wall part full of sand. Refilled damaged pegs and repaired 5 pitches wire rope total 40m, added 3 foot and 2 grip pegs. On return continued counting missing/damaged steps, added three new grip pegs at critical spots to Brana junction. Hope for fewer such landslides and path safe long time as shortest crossing Kamnik Alps from Kamniško to Kokrško sedlo. Written: OPP KBO MDO leader Alojz Pirnat
