Already fifteen, twenty years ago, maybe a quarter century and a bit more, abroad (CH, AUT, IT, FR) everything worked perfectly. I made reservations for myself, for a couple of people, for groups of ten plus people, for Haute Route ski touring (whoever knows what it’s about knows in how many huts you overnight), for summer tours, no problem. In German, Italian and even French (Google translate rocks  ), everything was precise as reserved. Including prepayments if for more people. And when I or we arrived, they were happy to see me or us, very welcome everywhere. Only with us there were always some problems, always reinventing the wheel, this and that, no problem, then you arrive and they don’t even know about you, let alone what was agreed. So as far as our huts go, thanks but no thanks for a long time.

"J.P.", in the hut where I wait for a possible free spot, if you don’t arrive at the hut, they deduct more from your card than if you did arrive. The system works and no one complains. Well, one more thing: As soon as they opened the reservation system, all Saturdays until the end of August were booked in minutes. So it’s possible if you want.

Today on the first program I got confirmation about foreigners, in huts 85 percent of them, Slovenians 15. Jakob Aljaž built the hut on Kredarica because Slovenians were not welcome in Stanič hut. PZS leadership should appreciate that, but old incompetents, eternal officials, only care about money. With reservations they'll lose real mountaineers. Herman struts because he can.

I don't know what the problem is with foreigners visiting our mountains. We also go abroad a lot. We crowd them there, they us here. Reservations are cool if the system works properly.
A couple of years ago the hut keeper in AUT told me they had lots of issues with reservations at the start. People booked half-board in multiple places, then went where the best weather was. And "forgot" to cancel elsewhere. The hut prepared food for them then it was left over with no place for it (had to cook much ahead, then no-shows for dinner). And more. When they introduced some sort of deposit with reservation, those problems almost disappeared. How it is here, I don't know, so I won't comment on what others told me. I myself have very bad experiences with local huts, and have slept in them maybe 5 times in the last 20 years.

Problem could be we're cheap for foreign tourists so attractive target - if very cheap (absolute or relative, e.g. vs flight ticket to country), even few % penalty on cancel won't hurt? Agencies book accommodations far ahead for loads of people. On top dubious practices, today on V steni podcast heard some foreign agencies give groups no guide but just his phone for remote tips if trouble ... Same podcast Kredarica observer claimed East European tourist rush replaced by hordes of Americans, Australians... via agencies, probably super cheap for them?

Yesterday from Vrata via Plemenice to Triglav, then via Kredarica and Staničev dom via Prag back to valley.
Problem with payment parking meter because couldn't pay with card, doesn't accept cash, so attendant allowed cash payment. 25€

Also public transport when last ride at 19, meanwhile still quite some hikers returning from Triglav and we drove them to Mojstrana, luckily had space in car, shows completely wrong decisions of municipal bigshots who with such high parking prices chased away esp domestic guests. From first hand such bad season as Aljažev dom in Vrata and some huts around, never been.

Can you imagine how incompetent you have to be to install a parking meter that doesn't accept cash, at the same time card payment on it doesn't work and you don't fix the situation after more than a month?
