Suunto Core watches

Hi, I'm interested in buying one of the Suunto Core watches. What experiences do owners have with them? Apart from slight differences in shape, it seems to me there are no differences between old and new models!? The price is about the same too. Is the altimeter really very accurate as they say? Is the black display better or the regular one (gray)?
Suunto Vector is supposedly good, and a bit cheaper too, but honestly I find it ugly nasmeh

Thanks for the info..

Buddy, a real man takes a POLAR watch (hand instrument) to the mountainsvelik nasmeh. Otherwise I'll judge them purely visually, first choice definitely first from the left, second would be number three, third I'd rank 4.5. Nice watches anyway.

I already have the second Suunto Vector - the first one I crushed. As for accuracy and functionality, it's fine.

I use two Suunto Vectors alternately, still the old model, already 15 years. Everything that works with them requires a battery change approximately every one or two years.
All functions, especially the altimeter, are flawless. In short, I don't change watch brands for mountains.

Me too, I'm interested in buying, so what do you recommend and for how much money can I get them. I would need it for hiking. Thanks, LP.

@frenk45,
I have X3HR from Suunto, it was 99€ back then and everything is fine. Something more basic, altimeter, barometer and heart rate (chest strap comes with it). I think you can't go wrong with Suunto, just decide what functions (how many) you need and how much money you're willing to spend on the watch.

What about straps? Mine broke twice in four years, probably I should wear the watch only in mountains. Strap repair cost 50 eur, so second time I didn't have it repaired.

Sometimes you need to think why you use it for everything. A good (also expensive) compromise is the Suunto T6d model, with good altimeter, pulse meter, distance measurer for running and bike. Good transfer to computer, where you can plan tour length on similar tours (starting point). In short, all in one.
Drawbacks are:
high price (from 295 Eur just the watch), batteries change every 6 months or sooner (watch and pulsemeter), strap doesn't last 1 year (price 20 Eur), display backlight, stiffer buttons (data with use up to 400 hours/year in all possible conditions).
Nice shape1

I have Suunto already almost one year!! the orange one!! Works excellent! but true after almost half year I already changed battery. Now it's quiet, we'll see how long it lasts. Regarding accuracy, top notch! buy everest edition, if they are still as cheap as they were a month ago or a bit more!! you can't go wrong

Felix, if it's no secret, what kind of wonder do you have that they robbed you like that. My strap costs about 20 eur, I change it myself. For most watches you just need a set of small screwdrivers and you save right away, at least for me unnecessary costs for watchmaker.

Last week bought SUUNTO X3HR for 79.90 EUR at Intersport, these functions suit me, otherwise it's like with a mobile phone lots of functions, you only use those that really benefit you and that you know how to use

Fleksarica, I have the watch at home in the drawer, I think it has the X5 label, but the whole casing with strap, so they had to send the watch to Finland, four years ago it cost around 500 eur. Anyway expensive thing and even more expensive repair.

Previously I had Suunto Observer, now I have Suunto Core all black (fifth from the left).

Reason for change was that Core has automatic alti/baro switch, which is great because no need to calibrate it every time and it switches itself between alti and baro function. Advantage for me is also Storm alarm function, which I have for sailing.

As for manufacturing, Observer was metal and more compact. It was Made in Finland, while Core is Made in China.

Personally super watch for me, not too heavy. Maybe someone misses heart rate monitor. I have it mainly for measuring altitude difference with logbook for biking and mountains.

I use CORE model:

FOR: looks, durability, strap, altimeter, compass

PLUS FOR: Suunto service (watch fogged up after 1 year, some pixels missing on display. On their website I found instructions for complaint. Printed 3 sheets, got DHL number. Called the number, they knew exactly what it was about. Next day courier at my place, after 2 days watch in Finland, after 5 days got notice that complaint accepted, after 7 days got completely new unit from Finland, postage paid by Suunto. That's how SUUNTO does it!!!)

AGAINST: poor display contrast, storm alarm beeps often for no reason (5mBar change in 1h)

I own my second Suunto Core already. The accuracy of this watch convinced me to buy again.
I wear it every day for 8 months already and the strap hasn't torn yet and doesn't look like it. Same with the previous one.
Definitely recommend it. velik nasmeh
