All praise to Gita for her photos, plus she chooses such mountains that I like too, everything so harmonious with her, real pity Gita never shows herself to us.

"gita" and "jaz" - how does Montaž look? Are there hikers there or is it still quite demanding and better to wait another week or two for that feat?
Planina Pecol is still unique, I see. Especially the marmot photos excited me, I've always been too slow for them.

@vessa: it's always hard for me to answer such questions because: first, we didn't go to Montaž, so I can't give reliable info on the path higher up where the snow starts (which probably interests you)...second, people go to Montaž in all seasons, even in the hardest winter, so the approach surely isn't questionable now...but it depends on a certain level of ability, experience, etc...what yours are, I can't judge, you know best yourself...the only thing I can reliably claim is that on Monday no living soul went up there, we were alone on Špik hude police too, three more went behind us but turned back before us, probably before the first steep snowfield... Conditions change day by day, even hour by hour depending on temperatures...not exactly helpful for path conditions, but still a close-up summit pic... Montaž will wait for us a bit, if you decide to go up in the coming days, safe steps and good luck!
P.S. And don't forget to report conditions firsthand... nasmeh

GITA really had luck, and peace on the pasture. Otherwise chamois aren't hard to photo if they're there. They don't fear at all, don't even bother to move away. But marmots, which immediately alert others and dash to burrows. That's something, super...

Weather wasn't right for Montaž, so we headed to this milder peak. Planina Pecol and Špik a bit different today, rainy and foggy.

As for the ferrata conditions, I can't really tell you, because there was fog towards Montaž...as much as I saw at the junction for Leva, it was dry, but I don't know how it looks furtherzadrega

Today was an ideal day for a Sunday trip to Špik-Hude police. From the parking lot at planina Pecol you can see the hut and the summit itself. From the start the path is macadam, then from the hut it climbs along a trodden path. The path is poorly marked and the signs are faded. We follow the path under the slabs and then zigzag up the slabs to the top. Along the path marmots whistle cheerfully and chamois pose. At the very top a magnificent view opens up. My gaze was directed towards the Karavanke, which I know best, and to Kanin. On the return to the valley we also went for a tasting of homemade yogurt and cheese. Thanks everyone for the pleasant company...LPnasmeh

One question. How long does the drive take from the Rateče border crossing to planina Pecol. Or from Bovec via Predel? So I roughly know when to leave home to be there early in the morning. Thanks

since they abolished that blue nuisance at the border - also an hour less

Bc - Predel - Pecol > 45 minutes
Rateče - Pecol < 30 minutes

Roughly, depending on how heavy a foot you have zadrega

From Ljubljana it's under two hours with all speed limits. From Rateče it's at least 40 minutes, because there are limits on the other side of the border too...velik nasmeh and because the road branching off at R. lake is quite narrow, from Neveja to Pecol even more... but those 5-10 minutes aren't so important, important is to arrive whole and healthy at the goal...velik nasmeh
