I somewhat avoid Slemenove špice due to mass visits. Yesterday fresh snow lured me up there along with hope for peace.
Snow fell very low. It started above 900m. Above hairpin no. 17 they were plowing.
Just one set of footprints led from Vršič towards Slemenova špica. From the stop locations I immediately knew it was a photographer. And indeed I met him at the top. Since it was clouding over we hurried with the photos.
On the way back we met another one (maybe PFranci, who has already posted a report and nice pics today). If it was him, sorry we didn't say more than hello.
Nice afternoon spent.

PFranci, hello, I haven't been to Slemenova Špica yet and I'm wondering if any winter gear is needed in the current conditions besides good boots. Nice pictures and inviting even under the white blanket! Thanks for the answer.

Still good to have at least good footwear...when I went after sunset from Slemeno towards Vršič it started freezing  ....especially since everything is trampled and icy.

This morning I jumped to Slemenova Peak, then also to M. Mojstrovka. Gorgeous morning with wonderful views. The path to Slemenova Peak is a bit slippery, but with careful steps it poses no major problems.

Does anyone know the condition of the path to Slemenova Špica these days? - Road drivability, how much snow on the path from Vršič to Slemeno, is it icy.....? Thanks

The road to Vršič from both sides is normally drivable, to Vratice the path is completely dry, further on it's snowy but no panic. There is little snow, where the path is trampled it can be a bit frozen so step carefully. Otherwise the snow melts quickly, the plain with lakes is now dry, plenty of visitors.

How is the road to Vršič, or how far by car? Haven't been to Slemeno Peak yet precisely because of the crowds rolling up there. But I got the idea to go up at night and wait for sunrise. I also have ideas for other places but this one tempts me. So how far by car and what winter gear do I need. Thanks.
