Darinka, back then velvet pumparice and red knee socks were the main ones. Mine still keep dren company in the closet.

You couldn't get other knee socks at Slovenija sport, the only store offering rare hiking stuff. No car back then, couldn't cross border for better.
Many wore those red knee socks then. Darinka, you should remember.
I cut them below after JLA service, made gaiters that worked better. But pumparice annoying and knee gap between gaiters and them in cold. Soon ditched both, wore worn old pants and Adidas, winter boots.

We were far from mountains. Don't even remember anyone going. Only to mass and catechism. That was as obligatory as school then. Great poverty especially in our remote villages. Home-knitted socks itched. Still don't like them for that.
