Has anyone been to Peca these days? What are the snow conditions?

I was on Sunday from Topla via Knipsova to the top and towards the hut and circular back to Topla towards Burjak... Towards Knipsovo saddle at ca 1800m asl it sank to the knees so snowshoes would be top league, but from the saddle on it was ok. Snow didn't cause problems because it was slightly frozen and trodden. Good luck.

Thanks for the answer. Maybe someone knows how it is with the starting point Jakobe and the path from there?

Yesterday with Nejc, left the car in Pristava and bit into the steepness, towards Bricman. The higher we went, the thicker the snow cover became. Most of the way Nejc was breaking trail first. We broke trail to the hut on Peca. We swept some snow off the terrace, making a spot for lunch. We recalled multi-year memories of how we broke snow for my February K-24, which a few years ago was successfully completed on the second try. (First loop took 27 h). During chatting and reminiscing we also concluded that now we don't need to make a trail to the top. We returned back, instead of poles I had pliers in my hands, which served me for pinching dry branches on the path. How much snow I got as a reward on my head, can't be ordered. We nicely cleared the path to the main road in the valley. Followed by lunch at Rešer.

Hello, is the road to Jakob passable and the parking lot cleared?

Why? It's just a forest road that in such a snowy winter simply doesn't have much 'tourist importance' yet.

@piotr, why again such an unfriendly reply "Why?" Couldn't you simply write "the road is not passable and the parking lot is not cleared". Not only locals go there and not everyone knows what significance some (forest) road has. Many elsewhere are plowed if e.g. it leads to some higher farm or for some other purpose.

Up to the karavla it's plowed and the road ahead is also plowed but I don't know up to where.

Today from Mitnek past the open Dom na vrh. Track is the whole way, in places already like a road . On ascent it still holds well, on descent it sinks already. So early hour golden hour. Lp

Hi, I'd like to traverse the entire ridge of Peca - traverse from Kumr in Koprivna over all five peaks of Peca to Dom na Peci and to Mitnek where I'd then need transport back. Combining with a car is possible but the start and end points are really far apart, another option is to hire someone to drive you to the start and wait at the finish... maybe someone knows a group planning to do the same feat in a month or two and I could join them, any other option? Thanks in advance for useful info. Lp

The easiest variant is if you have a friend, agree on this route. You go each with your own car. Drive one to Mitnik, leave him there. With the other drive to Kumr or Luže and leave it before the border. Start walking to upper Luže past the hunting hut, to Veška kopa, Bistriška špica. Križnik, Kočnikov vrh, Debela glava, Kordeževa glava. Then descend to the valley. The route is not that long. It is longer if you start in Globasnica, go to Veška kopa further along Peca, then descend to Mežica. There are many variants. If I was with one car, I often went from Pristava (Črna) over Peca to Kumr, refreshed there. Then back over Peca. During the walk I did something else on the way. To Pristava to the car and home. Make your plan with your options, when you have in mind that it will work out then happily on the way, currently there is still lots of snow. Days are lengthening. LP.J.

Hello, if you don't find a variant with two cars, I suggest you drive to Topla to the mine and park there. From there go on the steep path straight to Knipsovo sedlo, from the saddle first walk left along the ridge to Veška kopa, return and continue right to Kordeževa glava. On this nice ridge path you "visit" all the two-thousanders. From Kordeževa glava then via Mala Peca on the marked transverse path back to the car.

Maybe a bit easier from the Austrian side but as far as I see there too basically need to do the section Knips-Kordež both ways. If there is some passage from the Austrian hut towards Kordeževa glava (or even more left towards the barracks or Dom na Peci) I don't know. Some hunting passage surely exists, how easy to find I don't know.

Park in Koprivna at the end of the road where the junction is. Left goes gravel down to Globasnica, right towards Luža. Go right, arrive in SLO, continue towards Kumr and further to Kordeževa glava. Back to Knipsovo sedlo and nicely along the ridge to Bistriška špica and behind it of course also to Veška kopa. A bit back on the same path and descend to the car. From Knipsovo sedlo to Kordeževa the path repeats also on the return to the sedlo, and at the end after Veška kopa go again once on the same path a bit back, all else is nicely circular and very easy with one vehicle I skipped Veška kopa due to thick fog so probably one day I will walk there again, obligatorily in beautiful sunny weather https://tubojan.blogspot.com/2017/09/kordezeva-glava-koncnikov-vrh-bistriska.html
