Hi!

Does anyone know what the path is like? How much snow is there and what gear do you recommend? LP

Today on Pecol and visit Jôf di Montasio, up and down Pipan. Didn't even try Ozebnik direction, still lots of snow. Though a lady ahead went that way, we met her on top and chatted about conditions, which are tough. We too, I'd say even on classic path up, had tough conditions. Used both crampons and ice axe. At top, ridge completely steep and dry, like no rain at all. Weather favored us, at times clouds appeared on top. When descending to valley already small shower at car, but it lasted less than 5 min. Will return in autumn, ... through Ozebnik if it melts, nasmeh

Did you happen to check how the path on Špik Hude police looks? Still some snow on the path?

As seen from below, there should be two small snow patches on the path, what that means for crossing is hard to say

Špik, Hude police: already on 2.6 it was possible to go without winter gear. Then we crossed two soft snow patches. Maybe there are none left at all. lp

02.07.2018 from the Pecol pasture over Pipanova ladder. On the path some snowfields are crossable without winter gear; awkward is only the snowfield right below Pipanova ladder. The snowfield is bypassable; there was also a variant: path under snowfield cca 10 m, but more dangerous every day as ice layer very thin.

On Saturday we visited Montaž. From Pecol pasture past the cheese dairy and over Pipan ladder to the summit ridge. Before entry to rocks there's still small snow patch and we cross it without issues velik nasmeh

. We returned on the same path. On the way a shower with rain and hail refreshed us, so descent was quite slippery zmeden

. We also turned to Brazza hut, where sun already warmed us. velik nasmeh

For Amalia it holds that ice axe and crampons are always in/on backpack just like for Hanz's on Prisojnik.

@KJ: from which part of your comment can one discern the snow conditions on the via Amalia path or which part gives us info on snow amount?

for all mountaineering activities, you need to have liquid in your backpack - can you tell from this sentence if there's snow on the path to Viš?

According to colleague's view there's still some snow, but it could be bypassed.
Not 100%, so don't take my info too seriously. It is possible without, but depends what terrain you're used to

The treasure of life are moments that give beauty to memories and meaning to the future - I read somewhere. And yesterday's day was such a fairy-tale one. I wasn't really decided whether to go to Viš or Montaž, so I decided for the latter. Nice road leads to alpine pasture Pecol, where there is no barrier, nor do they collect parking fee. And trash bins are there, so the surroundings are clean. Parking lot is quite large. Although during workday, quite some cars gathered. I haven't hiked here alone before, but signs direct you where you intend to go. At the junction, where left branches the difficult climbing path through Findeneg's Couloir and right over Pipan's ladder, I decided for the latter. No rain was forecasted, because there is a lot of metal on this path. Chamois are all along the path and also on the top. Used to mountaineers. Here helmet is mandatory part of equipment, because they can trigger some stone. On descent I had company Pavel from our ends - Vipava ones. The whole path we went together to the starting point and chatted away. Someone was walking behind us for a while and probably listening to the debate, but we didn't notice at all. At the parking lot we say goodbye. Last stop was swimming in Lake Rabeljsko, where the water surely had about 23 degrees. Also here no one collected entrance fee. I would have stayed longer, but a long drive home awaited me.
