It will be accessible, but some of us won't use it. For me, the greatest experience in the mountains is still solitary off-trail hiking, just with a map. I've hiked alone on marked paths, with company on marked paths, with company that wouldn't go anywhere without GPS, and alone off-trail. And yes, I know it's the least safe way of walking.

30 years ago we could camp in a tent anywhere, no one chased us. Today we can hike off-trail anywhere, no one chases us. Even on border ridges and hunting paths, which we couldn't do back then without special permission. What about in 30 years - will we (they) just turn on a device that leads them anywhere...? Every era has its pros and cons. We must use the pros mainly and preserve the mountains as much as possible like we received them from our predecessors. And there are enough for everyone, for those who hike, as well as those who run or climb or bike.

Weather promised a nice Saturday so I head out for a longer tour. From Planina Blato in light rain I head towards Planina Laz. On the way I meet a nice gentleman and we continue to Lazovski preval. We spiced up the path a bit as we turned right just before the sign on Planina Laz so in the end we spent almost an hour pushing through very steep scree and talus and scrambling some bushes in between. Somehow we made it back to the right path and continued to Lazovski preval. Here we parted ways as I continued to Mišeljski preval where a nearly 300m descent followed to the alpine pasture below Mišelj Peak. Visibility was very poor here as thick fog persisted up to about 2000m. Just before the pasture a cairn marked the left branch into Mišelj valley. I follow this path briefly to the right branch leading to Koštrunovec. At first the path goes through bushes, then searching for passages a bit on grass and talus to the saddle below Mišelj Peak. Here and there I spotted a cairn, but due to thick fog walking was more by feel. From the saddle I hop to the top of Koštrunovec from where there's a nice view of Mišelj Peak. I continue along the left side of the ridge over steep grass then searching natural passages and some scrambling to the extremely scenic summit. Then along the ridge I reached the summit of Na nizkem. The ridge itself to this summit is passable, mostly the path goes along the top. Since Mišelj konec was too far for that day as days are getting shorter and legs had enough I descended to the saddle before the next rise. Here I follow a small gully for a while then turn right into steep grass. Visibility hindered me again so I twice ended up in front of too steep cliffs for me. Third time with some scrambling it worked so I reach the path again leading through Mišelj valley. The path is marked with cairns and easy to follow to the branch at Mišeljski preval. Again ascent to Mišeljski preval and then descent below Prevalski stog to Planina Jezerca – Planina Krstenica and finally Planina Blato. It was a nice but very long and strenuous tour with over 2000m elevation gain.

Really nice peak with idyllic alpine pasture below and view of Triglav which we're not used to. The ridge to Mišelj konec is also picturesque.

Regarding 10-year-old comment by Mito 3000: Descent from Mišelj Peak towards Na nizkem into Mišelj valley is adrenaline-filled. Last year I turned back uphill several times searching for passage to the valley. Finally quite exposed I found a gully where someone lost a green Adidas shoe and knew I was on the right "path". Everything else nice memories... Good luck

Tomaž, Pictures of dol past and the tour, as you call it. Hats off. But was the start really from Zajamniki and return to the starting point? All in one day? How many kilometers did that add up to?

No, no... Zajamniki were just on the way to my starting point... it was straight east, so I stopped . Still, there were quite a few kilometers

In any case, long. If I may ask, which is a suitable starting point? Also for ZS. I don’t know much of these Bohinj ends, between Rudno polje and Planina Blato I have a gap regarding knowledge of starting points (and much else).

For Mišelj Peak there are two suitable starting points, Planina Blato and Rudno polje. Rudno polje is a bit higher, but you have to descend a bit at Velem polje, from Blato it might be a bit shorter. I myself went to Mišelj Peak and the ridge traverse from Pokljuka, but back then I could still park at the end of the road below Planina Konjščica, which is quite a bit closer than now, when the car is left in front of the barracks. If you start at Rudno, Pokljuka, you have Vodnik hut almost along the way, and when you finish you can refresh at Pokljuka in the gojzarji, which you can't at Blato.

I suggest a third option to you, which is a bit longer and almost without detours . I practice it every year for visiting Kanjavec. Start in Krma, from Malo polje turn towards Bohinjska vrata, descend to Vodnik, from there across Velo polje towards Koštrunovec, which you reach from the left side, then with a short and undemanding scramble to the top. If you're not used to steeper slopes, then from Velem polje continue towards the pasture below Mišelj Peak and further down the same valley. After twenty minutes turn right and across nice meadows from the west reach the peak. Lots of enjoyment and good luck!

Be careful at Malo polje, people have been getting lost there for three years, no signpost to Vodnik hut, markings are gone too. If you haven't been there, look at photos, for example forum Vernar, for easier orientation, when you will, if you will be there. But here there are about five hundred meters extra elevation, Krma is low, and you still have to descend from Bohinjska vrata. On the way back it's the other way, which on such long tours isn't always pleasant.

Thanks everyone, you're great! I'll keep all the tips in mind. Anyway yes, as far as I've looked so far, I'd go up past Koštrunovec, back down to Mišelj valley via option 2 as lijaneja described above. Look, just checking and from all options the closest is from Blato past Krstenica and over Jezerski pass. Elevations aren't excessive either. Just have to swallow that damned parking fee at Blato. Anyway, hope it works out sooner or later. Here in these areas I still have very much to do and probably something else will come before Mišelj Peak. First something a bit easier. But these are "sweet worries".
