Anyway same old story again, but..... Almost in the dark I start hiking from Mangartska Planina. Already after good 20 minutes I'm above the fog blanket and a nice day dawns. I walk partly on marked path, partly on the road to Mangart saddle. Not much snow, frozen snow patches start before the last tunnel, pass the ruins of old Czech hut, and to the saddle. Under MRM I put on crampons, helmet on head, under first cables on Italian path also ice axe in hand. Snow is hard frozen and holds great, like real mid-winter, so ascent is real pleasure. After crossing north side I reach sun, which is almost too hot for this time, snow softens slightly and soon at the top. Valleys in fog, hills and mountains like islands amid misty veils. Wind from SW, so descend a bit lower, sit a while. Looking towards Triglav and somewhat sorry I didn't head that way. Via radio call Kredarica where Janko answers, says only one came from valley, such nice day. Slowly back to saddle, meet Austrian obviously without proper gear, soon turns back too or he'd get into serious trouble. At hut stack the scattered wood, on mobile get message about action on Kriški podi, unfortunately too far, later learn it was slip, injured picked up by helicopter. Follows descent into fog and back to planina. Pity, as weather worsens again, but such good conditions in mountains. Gear like crampons, ice axe and helmet mandatory for high mountains and any debate yes or no is pointless.
