Road normally drivable, parking fee collected only on Sat and Sun. Approach to summit nicer via Slovenian than Italian due to shorter snow patches. Everyone turned back right before the traverse and even on Slovenian someone turned just below summit due to hard snow. The rest is normal, only one cable is severely damaged in upper part of Italian route.

I have a question about the path to Vrh Planj (ok, not Mangart, but nearby, so hope I'll be forgiven).
With a buddy we'd go for a walk from Mangart waterfall to Vrh Planj. And since we prefer walking in nature rather than on the road, we'd take the path as drawn on the map.
Dilemma: this path is on MaPZS map, marked "poorly trodden trail", but it's not on any other map (well, checked two more).
Question: does the path exist, is everything ok with it, or is it all overgrown? No problem for us to push through some bushes and I understand nature does its thing, but wouldn't want to bash complete 400m elevation through shrubbery.

Path to Vrh Planj almost doesn't exist - but the ridge where it runs is not hard to follow. I followed it several times from the path coming from Mangart pasture, terrain is nicely passable without major issues. Summit is overgrown and no great views. Orientation is harder on descent. I preferred to stick more to the left (looking down) - towards Mangart stream the terrain is steeper with some drops. Endpoint is always the water intake pipeline for the hydropower plant.

Saturday wind combined with low temperatures promised nice tour. Start at Mlinč where pleasant -9, end at top with strong wind and -17. Ascent partly on foot, partly on skis, some time on road in between also shortcuts. Ascent Slovenian where lots of windblown loose snow, return direct winter variant to saddle and skis back to car.

From Mlinč it really drags to the top and back in spring time. But ski run from top was excellent.

Nice Youth Day was today. From the top, the first 300 m of 30 cm dry snow, then to the first turns of the Italian route pure ice. From there onwards, nice hard surface that covered rocks just with a few cm so no rattling.
