Kriški podi

From the sea back to the mountains a bit.
Already on Friday nice weather was forecasted, but fog in Vrata lasted until Sovatna. From Razor super view, Visoke Ture looked like winter, as previous rain cleaned the area well, only around Bavški Grintovec fog lingered.
Next day we chose pathless peaks around Kriška stena: Šplevta-Indijanca 2382m, Kriški rob 2366m and Vrh Kriške stene 2404m.
In between we went to Križ too, which is just 10 min from Bovška vratca. Back to Vrata past Bivak4.

On Saturday (if no snow of course) we plan to go to Kriški podi, I wonder if we need to reserve something in advance for overnight. Nice day

Forecast that I use with benefit (and it worked for Switzerland, France, Austria, not to mention western Julijci and Karnci) says up to around 40cm snow possible:

On Triglav a bit over 40cm:

and on Krn a bit less than 40cm:

Well, if half of predicted it will be enough and too much. And temps will be, brrr, low, next few days.

Hello.

Tomorrow, Saturday, planning with gf from Vrata over Sovatna to Bovški Gamsovec, sleep in Pogačnikov dom and then Sunday around lakes to Stenar and back to Vrata over Dovška vratca. Worried about approach to these two peaks due to snow (no crampons) and exposure.

If someone was today on B. Gamsovec or Stenar, please say what conditions are. What are temps?

Many thanks.
Stay safe!

Since you care for your gf, if not for yourself, tomorrow forget those two peaks.

Will you give some reasoning or just talking off the cuff?

I don't understand either. Snow on Kredarica judging by webcam, which is about same height, not much fell, temps at 2500 are above zero already today. Snow probably not problematic anymore, or is it? Wind and possible ice a problem? Don't know, just asking.

In my opinion the Kredarica webcam is not a "gauge", because the snow up there has been blown away and it looks like there's almost none.
Maybe yesterday's pics on this link are more "reliable"...although from Karavanks...in Julian Alps there should be more...?!

Hard to say for the Julians, but the Kamniks looked pretty white this morning and I slightly doubt that this snow will be gone by tomorrow. To me personally these conditions (i.e. 10-20cm fresh snow on rock) are the most unpleasant for walking...

Hello! Does anyone know the conditions on the route Zadnjica - Kriški Plateaus and further towards Razor?

@jetamp,
whatever it was like, today it's no more. That's why ARSO and the section exist;

Hi jurc1,

today on Stenar, up through Sovatna valley over Stenarska vratca. Lots of snow still on Kriški Podi, we only put crampons on at the start to Stenar, since snow before was so soft no need. On descent from Stenar and drop from Stenarska vratica though crampons and ice axe really needed.

Best, Saša
