Today the hike to Kriška didn't fully satisfy me so I went to Tolsti vrh. Traces of yesterday's hikers were no more, all windblown and drifted so had to break trail, 20 cm in some places up to 50 cm. But more came after me so the trail is now OK.

Today with my better half afternoon walk from Povelj to Tolsti vrh. Ascent unproblematic. Caution needed at places where avalanches cross the path. Above 1300 m snow loose on frozen base, footing sure. Summit occasional wind. More than nice cool day (Storžič north heli action).

Yesterday 16.3.09.:
The path from Kriška to Tolsti vrh is trodden but already quite worn out, especially on sun-exposed slopes where the snow cover tears! Despite crampons it slipped on the soft ground.
The path trodden recently due to some memorial hike, apparently according to two locals, does not run correctly - (searched in vain for markers). On the exposed section it crosses a steep slope, which is not dangerous now but could soon be..
I'll wait a bit for a repeat.
Otherwise nice view from the top to Storžič, Košuta ridge and more.

Today walk to Tolsti vrh from village Goriče (Zalog). Dry to Mala Poljana, above the pasture currently ideal for breaking a leg (air pockets under snow, strenuous). Otherwise fun. Seems this approach not used often (I did it first time too) ...

Today I ascended from Zalog via Mala Poljana to Tolsti vrh. The path is mostly dry, exceptions are small snow patches on the way between Mala Poljana and Tolsti vrh.
I descended back to Mala Poljana, from there continued to Velika Poljana, from which I then descended to the starting point.

Does anyone know the new snow conditions on Tolsti vrh and from there to Kriška gora? Has new snow fallen today and how much is there still? Will it be a suitable tour on Saturday? Thanks for info. Happy holidays everyone and even nicer hikes.

Path to Kriška gora completely dry, to Tolsti vrh still a couple small snow patches, but no panic, I was up yesterday. Gorgeous views!

I went to Tolsti vrh last Sunday. Namely from Grahovše to Kriška, from there to Tolsti vrh, descended via Mala Poljana and past Dom pod Storžičem. Snow started approx. 200m below Kriška-Tolsti vrh ridge. The ridge itself was locally still heavily snowy and here and there when crust gave way sank to ass  . But really only here and there. Down to Mala Poljana snow quickly lessened, but then up to Dom pod Storžičem surprisingly much at places. From Dom down bare ground, blooming garlic  , ....., and hail and rain shower....
Recommend gaiters - higher for snow, lower for mud !

This week there's really much less (snow) than last week. I was also there last week at the dom pod Storžičem; the amount of snow quite surprised me. Go boldly to Tolsti vrh, lp

Thanks Tadeya! I was also 3 weeks ago on Tolsti vrh and it was quite tough in that snow mass when we sank to our asses. But I know quite a bit of snow has melted and I believe the path will be more friendly tomorrow. Can't wait!

Views yesterday weren't the best due to fog and partly cloudy sky; nevertheless quite a few of us ended up on Tolsti vrh midday - some via Gozd - Tolsti vrh - Kriška gora and down to the start, others in reverse direction. Plenty of alpine flowers on this trail right now too, near start in sparse forest real fields of blooming ramsons.

Yesterday I was on Tolsti vrh via the path past the hut on Kriška. The morning weather was still nice, later it got a bit worse, afternoon it rained.

Yesterday, 9.12.2009 overnight the situation on Kriška gora was as follows: snow started at approx. 1000 m a.s.l., blown away on wind-exposed areas, elsewhere up to 10 cm. Walking still possible without crampons, though I recommend having them in the backpack just in case.

Yesterday 23.01. path Gozd-Tolsti vrh-Kriška gora fantastic. No crowds, path trodden, no slipping or sinking. Sunny, warm and gorgeous compared to fog a bit lower.

I was up there yesterday too. At hut on Kofce it cleared up and was wonderfully warm, sunny....
