Again the path led us towards Bohinj end.. In the valley fog, feeling of cold that gnaws to the bones... Higher you climb better it looks. At about 900m asl sun peeks and deep blue sky.. like in another world. Well-known path flies by, to the hut for drink and snack.. in front of hut martini time and petting two young kittens..

Usually we use Sundays for tours, by chance now it coincided that we had a bit more so I'm glad it's like that and we make good use of the nice weather that's still promising....

From Friday to today on Komna. One big disappointment, all peaks in clouds, below rain and wind. No wonder we were the only ones in the hut. Snow just a trace up to 1700m somewhere, then in places enough drifted for comfortable walking. Hard-packed and icy in spots, so without crampons you're poorer. On the ridges around the plateau they're already necessary, because it's windblown to skating rink.
Net result in the end just one little peak of Kozlov rob and around to Srednji vrh.

I agree with lynx. My mom and I on Saturday easily made it up sportily in two hours, I went further to the Hut under Bogatin, didn't have time to go further though I had all the gear with me. I'd need it at Bogatinsko sedlo, because it's icy, with snow it's all messed up. Lynx, were you the ones planning Podrta gora? The warden said so. I'm wondering what this is on my third picture?

that's a pistol cartridge, not from first war though, too well preserved, maybe even placed as marker for hikers

Today 26.12 the path through switchbacks through the dry forest, further snowy but nicely trodden, no ice... excellent choice for winter outing

Yesterday the trail to Komna was like this, attaching pics. For the descent small crampons might come in handy, but if not it still goes. The trail isn't icy but smoothed snow in the upper part.

On Monday 02.01 conditions were almost the same as Ajda described, only lower down it was wet because of the thaw.

Has anyone been yesterday or today to Komna? Is the trail still passable without crampons, as stoparB and Ajda wrote? The hut on Komna is open anyway, right?

I think that in winter crampons, if not also ice axe, are mandatory gear for mountain goers whatever the conditions. Better to carry them even with their weight than arrive at exposed spot in danger

today: Middle part iced up (roughly 15 to 40 hairpins) - up no panic, down caution needed. Crampons really good to have in backpack, most hikers without though. Past hairpins trodden snow and great path to hut - open non-stop.
