Ideal conditions for ascent to the upper peaks. Only the higher part of the path towards Kofce gora requires a bit more caution.

No avalanche danger. Along the ridge path to Kofce gora and further to V. vrh, recommend crampons and ice axe.

Yesterday walked the mentioned path... but in opposite direction... Winter gear not needed on path... for stamp collectors maybe info that stamp is approx. a meter deep under snow... so without shovel... won't go mežikanje

The area richest in snow is around Veliki vrh and its own summit... everything else is quite poorer.

Yesterday on descent from Lubnik decision was made to go to Kofce nasmeh

We started at Matizovec. Met quite a few young families, all descending. Well, we were a bit late eek

. Arrived at hut on Kofce a little before 16:00. I look towards Veliki vrh. It tempts me a lot to visit it mežikanje

. But rather enjoyed view and tea. Still decided to go check towards Kofce gora. Had a bit of company, young couple started a bit before us wanting to reach that summit. There at traverse a bit exposed, girls got a bit scared, don't continue. We go try and check conditions. Some snow but can be bypassed, I went a bit my own way on dry grass nasmeh

. With a bit of stubbornness reached summit just after 18:00. Quick descent follows. Back to starting point at 19:45.
One more: Veliki vrh (actually whole Košuta ridge) still has some snow cover, but think no problem, so go up. I know if had more time I'd go today. But see tomorrow much less, as it disappears fast.

Today circular tour Jelendol-Hut on Kofce-Veliki vrh-Kofce gora-Jelendol. Weather without proper views, foggy and strong wind blowing. On saddle and summit remains of snowdrifts, but no problems.

Morning started "cow-way". From pastures under Košuta they were herding cows. On road to planina Pungart and Šija had to pull aside twice, stay calm so thundering herd doesn't thrust big horns somewhere else except into ass ahead. nasmeh

Well, close encounters passed safely. Really funny (or not) when cow stares at you close through windshield with big eyes. Not just one... Road to pastures pretty bad here and there. From Šija took Kača path over Froncov greben, then not left to Toplar and Veliki vrh. Back lower path. Interesting, quite some snow on south side, slippery on lower path too, but snow melts fast, tomorrow almost gone. No special problems. Wind howled on summit but only on ridge. At Kofce still horses and goats and donkeys (real), this time lunch too. Nice relaxed day. Boletus growing. nasmeh

Towards Ljubeljska baba and Hajnževo sedlo. It seemed the north side was barer

On Saturday, 26.10.2013, I visited the peaks above Kofce (Veliki vrh, Toplar and Kofce gora). Weather sunny and windless nasmeh

Does anyone know what the path to Veliki vrh from Kofce is like, and if the road to the starting point at Mrzli studenec is passable?

If no one has answered, I went to check myself nasmeh

The road to the starting point is passable, they removed the trees that had fallen on the road. Already at the starting point I knew there would be no views.
The path is muddier up to Kofce, then snow patches started, otherwise no issues to the junction (straight to Veliki vrh, right to Kofce gora). Here the snow cover started, snow softer. I persisted about 100 vertical meters, then due to sinking turned back to the starting point. No crampons, path untrodden, clouds hid what was ahead (visibility 50m). Košutka in summer then nasmeh

Not too early, I set off towards Kofce and to the summit of Veliki vrh, back along the ridge to Kofce gora and descent along the ridge past the hut to the valley.

In the morning you could admire Košuta even from Matizovec, later white cloudiness crept in from the south.
I set off up from the first organized parking lot, higher up along the less muddy cart track. So I had plenty of time to think how to best make another apartment in the house, since nowadays selling a house looks like coming out from under the eaves into the rain and not vice versa.
On Kofce the first patches of snow with some frozen grass appeared, higher up the snow thickened to 15cm of already compact snow. Need to wait for a sunny day with night frost for better conditions on such grassy slopes zadrega

.From Kofce gora I headed for the ridge traverse via Toplar to Veliki vrh. I like such high traverses the most, as everything is full of interesting puffed-up sculptures and views into the depths. Here I put on crampons to hike a bit and get the feel on new crampons with three-season boots. Walking with them compared to without is much faster on such dangerous terrain. Today over 20 mountaineers gathered at the summit, at least 10 from the Croatian group. At the top it was pleasantly warm with a cooler south wind. As respect and praise after descent I gave to the older couple, Mr. Radu (recent annual alpinists meeting at Koča na Gozdu), who according to his wife's story was an alpinist and rescuer. These two took it directissima across the entire southern grassy slope of Veliki vrh off-trail. Nice tour in beautiful weather, of which there has been little lately nasmeh
