Kofce gora, Toplar and Veliki vrh

Today was more than suitable for visiting the mountains.
I start at Matizovec, where there is a few cm of snow, which thickens to Kofce to over 10 cm, križ area blown, above 1600 m significantly thicker with old base below. For Veliki vrh now better small crampons, quite blown. For Kofce gora plenty of snow in gully, nice ascent on virgin snow. On top cold NE wind, not really warm. To Veliki vrh climbers with crampons and one hiker succeeded, afternoon a couple. Then martini time at Plansarija Kofce shelter with sunbathing. Nice pre-winter tour no big crowds, cheersvelik nasmeh

The base is unevenly wind-blown. Where it is hard, above there is wind-packed unprepared dry snow, in between below there are also icy patches here and there - caution on ascents.8

Today up the ridge to Veliki vrh. Crampons on just before Toplar summit. Hard crust some places, sinks others. Return off-piste. Carefully doable.

Plan was only to Kofce gora, but eyes saw all ridge beauty, desires grew, extending to Veliki vrh obvious. How not step on it so close, just nice snowy ridge path and great views both sidesnasmeh.

yes both first time on this loop in winter, beauty means probably not last.
Couldn't decide if small crampons enough, from Kofce down definitelynasmeh.

We parked a bit below Pungart. About 200m before the fence the road was quite snowy and icy. On the return we saw a car right before the fence. Maybe a mountain lover who went to Kladivo to wait for sunset.
We were on Kofce gora, Toplar and Mali Kladivo. Crampons were not needed. Weather super sunny, wind only in a few spots, otherwise calm. Unbelievably warm for January. Met Thinky even in short sleeves!
The snow fields were crusty in the afternoon. Cloudy in the valley.1
No bull. ;-)2
The path from Malega to Velikega Kladiva is mostly bare.3
Icy road for the last 200m before the fence at planina Pungart4
Dry, sunny and warm on Kačji poti. No snake ;-)5
Clouds in the valley though.6

Today on Košuta. Start from Matizovec. The ascent was almost all the time in fog, but when we reached the ridge the sun came out. The plan was only Veliki vrh, but due to fog we missed and reached Kofce gora, then extended to Toplar and Veliki vrh. On return we stopped at Kofce for stew.

Missed? Actually, that was almost the only sensible way in these conditions (and good to know even without fog).
