Does anyone know what the current conditions are like at the saddle regarding snow/avalanches? Some snow fell today and since I plan to go up tomorrow (if conditions are OK) I'm interested in what to expect? What is the avalanche risk?

I think you can go to Kamniško sedlo without problems, I think there's very little of it, we're also deciding between sedlo or Storžič. Of course don't forget winter gear, and lots of luck, maybe we'll meet

Today I was up there and the path is nicely trodden to the "shepherds" and even further to the summit you could get without crampons and gaiters although I don't recommend - I put them on nicely at the shepherds and trekking poles are useful too. Because of snow count on needing extra stamina with you. The weather was fantastic and if you're bored in the valley then get into action ASAP. Off the trodden path you'll sink deep, more than half a meter so once even almost stuck. At the summit almost no snow as it blew it away.

Looks quite wintry already, how about the path below in the forest? Greetings, Simona

In the lower part it's mostly dry, then snow appears more and more and ice by the rocks too, but well trodden so to the shepherds besides good boots and caution you just need good mood. Ice spikes at the path start are nice and big during the day when melting also dangerous.

I have to agree with Andrej, because my wife and I also visited Kamniško sedlo today and I must say the weather was gorgeous, cloudless with a little breeze. The path itself from Jermanca to shepherds and then to the hut is quite nice, from there on everyone treads their own track. But I can say that today above 1000m asl was really fantastic. The hike was ok although no nice weather like previous days - wind at summit really raged so today well blown through and also convinced I need better gloves - old ones good at most for shoveling snow at home.

Hi, just wondering how long it takes to hike to Kamniško sedlo in these conditions, thanks.

3 hours maybe a bit more if you haven't moved much in this time - from the shepherds to the top it actually goes faster than in summer on the classic path because it's tramped more directly towards the top. Crampons good to have with you.

In winter conditions the ascent length is very variable. Walking time depends on the snow we're walking on. If we hit snow that breaks through you might spend up to 3x more time than usual.

Does anyone perhaps know what the current conditions are like for Kamnik Saddle? We plan to go tomorrow. How much shorter is the route if we start from Jermanca compared to Kamniška Bistrica?

From Jermanca it's about an hour shorter but the road is often impassable in snow.

What about snow avalanches on this path? Is it safe from them or not?

For now no danger, but if a lot of new snow falls then better to wait until it settles.

And what about snow depth? How far could you ski down?

To the shepherds it would go, below through the forest no. Maybe with big foots a bit further in the forest.

What do you want, that it rains or not? Forecasts say it will!

From the shepherds onwards there's snow anyway.

Heavy rainfall coming so stay in the valley and postpone your trip to another day. You could go along the walking path by Kamniška Bistrica, just take an umbrella.
