Jerebikovec

koma17. 11. 2014 21:19:25
Since the weather doesn't allow bigger exploits, it's an opportunity for visits to nearby hills, this time to Jerebikovec via the less known Matina path.

Start at Kosmač Saddle in Upper Radovna from the cart track on the opposite side of the road from the turnoff to Kot. After some 10 meters, turn into the forest, junction poorly marked (apparently TNP constantly removes marks..!?'zmeden), higher in the forest search for faded red arrows on trees guiding to well traceable little path delivering to viewpoint with "summit log". Continue on path where middle part somewhat lost, have to make an effort to poke right direction, cairns help, otherwise hold left edge where slope overhangs to Mojstrana side. Path in upper part better traceable and crosses right to top bringing to ridge top. Then follow ridge towards Mojstrana (if follow to end reach monument), we leave ridge at viewpoint where all three valleys nicely visible and turn to Tilčev rot, joining path from Mojstrana
Nice path with some orientation sense welcome change vs classic path from Mojstrana for all who like this viewpoint...nasmeh

This description would have been handy three weeks ago when I completely missed the start. The return went more correctly, though I didn't reach the log box.

Still nice Pastirica..nasmeh, first time probably threaded path correctly only upper part which is well traceable.. but don't understand return missing logbook since exit to cart track at Novak rot was correct. Viewpoint with book right some 100m above Novak rot... no worry next time.nasmeh

Probably followed path too tensely, also didn't know about logbook. Generally had little info and went more exploring.
What about this, you know it too?

Once a long time ago I went along the old hunter's trail behind Gogale, but I don't remember the details anymore..it's waiting for a repeat!
roughly from the direction of Radovna..1

From behind Gogale I went a short time along Zadnja dolina (one branch right is already earlier ??), then right out to the hunter's blind. To the blind there's a quite good little path (some fallen trees in places), which then continues horizontally to the right. As they told me later in the valley, it leads around in gullies to the transverse path high up. But now it's hard to pass due to fallen trees.
I myself went soon after the blind left uphill on a path and then searched for passages to the transverse path. On the transverse path itself I didn't find continuation left, so I tried straight up the ridge. Soon I spotted the first cairns and then the summit wasn't far.
The trail you went on is supposed to have a somewhat awkward exit from Zadnja dolina (some pegs for lowering hay are described), so because of the dog I didn't try it, higher up I didn't find it.

...Yesterday... The path is now well trodden, maybe someone will be drawn up there. Snow from the saddle onwards more and more, at the monument approx 50cm. nasmeh

Majda - does Jerebikovec need anything else besides microspikes? Planning to go tomorrow.

Just good will still velik nasmeh I think microspikes are completely sufficient. The path is quite steep though, but I think if you have Veriga Lesce with 10-12 teeth, that's plenty.

I was on Jerebikovec on Thursday. The lower part is clear, from the viewpoint onwards where the bench is it's more or less snowy. The path is trodden but can be icy in places. I had crampons with me but didn't need them, recommend them though...

Today I was on Jerebikovec. In the shade under the monument the snow was hard and the path icy, the same on the ridge above the road, so I highly recommend microspikes. Also: yesterday someone on Jerebikovec was very angry and vented in the summit book - I think such things don't belong there.

On Saturday we ascended Jerebikovec. The start and end of the hike was the starting point near Mojstrana by the road to Krma and Radovna.
The first part of the path to the bench is steep and passable without issues. From the bench to the monument still snow and ice in places, so caution advised. Poles very helpful. Last part still partly snowy, but ok without crampons.
At the top sun and nice views awaited. Bivouac (no longer deserves the name) in very poor state. In the log box book for entries, stamp pad, sadly no stamp.

Through the Zadnja dolina, most of it is pathless terrain, which on the rocky step requires some climbing with poor grip. The pegs "for lowering hay into the valley" mentioned in some descriptions cannot be found (one unnecessary peg appears only on the hunting traverse above the step). The descent is therefore quite dangerously complicated and not recommended. It's demanding pathless terrain. I descended via an occasionally less traceable path to Novakov Rovt.

... Jerebikovec...Lucky it's in the same direction as the planned wilderness trip. Already before Mojstrana, rain surprises us and we quickly decide for this viewpoint. Mists mysteriously veil the views, droplets in spiderwebs sparkle like a precious necklace. Big shiny ones and small barely noticeable ones fear that the cold wind won't blow them off the last blooming primroses. Views, there were none today, but you can see them on the link above..nasmeh

Usually I don't post anything on this forum, but today something really bothered me!
Matina path to Jerebikovec is really ugly - read obnoxiously marked!!! Maybe the one who did it will show up and comment why it was necessary. With orange spray, towards the top with red, he made ugly marks on every stone, if there wasn't one by chance, he dragged it from somewhere and placed it at height. To me this doesn't seem right, nice pathless terrain has become ugly marked.

This pathless terrain has been marked for quite some time now and increasingly aggressively. I wonder what it's for too? And why this silly naming, which has egocentrism of an individual as background, misleading the lay public around him. For me it is and will remain the path from Novakov Rovt to Polevc (sadly no longer pathless)!
