Javorca (Golte)

Javorca didn't disappoint again. Yesterday it was a real winter day (-12°C) for wandering up there. Last week lots of snow fell again. Knee-deep and way over, I was breaking it. I barely made it to the bivouac; the access was so buried. The last time there was so much snow was 2013. While sunning at the bivouac, two acquaintances arrived and we chatted pleasantly while birds kept us company. First time this winter I heard the alpine accentor sing. It really has a very nice and penetrating sound. We also lit a fire. For the descent, I chose another untracked path and enjoyed the winter along it.
The track on the marked path from Žekovec is nicely done, the road to Golte also super plowed.

Janez - nice! Isn't it great when winter is real winter. Us older ones get a bit sentimental and our thoughts wander to our youth.

Nice weather lured me to Javorca again yesterday. It had snowed overnight before and I had to dig out the car again.nasmeh Temperature at home was -18°C, at Planinska raven -16°C, at the bivouac pleasant -5.9°C. In the sun a few degrees more. Fresh fluffy snow, Siberian temperatures, no human tracks yet, rabbits' breakfast room, chamois under the dinosaur head digging for food and more, gave me plenty of enjoyment on the way to the bivouac and back. Breaking the trail to the bivouac while small slabs kept shifting under my feet was always a special pleasure. No birds in sight this time, but I refilled their almost empty feeder. Met no one, only tracks of two ski tourers were fresh on the return. Now as I write this and look towards Javorca, it's snowing again and luring me up once more.mežikanje

Yesterday conditions were wonderful for a jump to Javorca. The old snow had settled and frozen, with 10-15cm of powder on top, and walking was really pleasant. I ascended past the abyss below Verbučeva koča. Saw chamois trails and a ptarmigan. On Javorca I met a friendly hiker and we went together to the bivouac and chatted there like village gossips.nasmeh A call reminded us it's time to go down. Our better halves called, who had finished skiing. We descended together to Mozirska koča. Then I went down past Mesarska lopa. The marked trail to Rečica is already nicely passable in the section below Okence with a bit more care.

Yesterday the Tirske peči tempted me again. Snow is still good for walking. Up to ankle-deep powder over hard old base. No one has walked yet, only a hunter's track with dog appears just before Malinski vrh. There I turned down to the road due to windthrow and along it towards Ston. There chainsaws and winches were buzzing full on. I went to the monument. The upward path along the logging trail is impassable, so I tried the marked one to Ljubno. This too is impassable from the clearing downward. I traverse across to Cmonk, which turns out quite good and soon I'm on the path to the gully. Below the gully I put on crampons and take the ice axe in hand. The gully is nicely filled. The upper ice step can be overcome with one ice axe. The pegs are still just out enough to be useful. After the step to Lopna peč I head right at the saddle to Štenge. I started the ascent on dry ground along the wall, as fallen trees block the usual path. The chamois garden is almost completely dry and primroses are just waiting for thaw to bloom. At Konjski vrh icy wind awaits me and I hurry to Žlajfer for tasty goulash and coffee. Of course I had to jump to the bivouac at Javorca to check if everything is as it should be. On descent I also go through Okno, where I see four chamois. For the finale, on the drive down a nice roe deer with shaggy antlers crosses the road and thus beautifies the nice tour even more.

On Saturday we had a great time on Golte. For warm-up we tested grip on rocks and grass on one of the paths to the bivouac via Požganija. There was quite some adrenaline, especially in the female part of the team.mežikanje But we managed all climbing problems with lots of laughter nicely. Weather served us and we had nice views all the time during ascent. After a longer stop at the bivouac with obligatory tasting of the barrel content, we descended to Mozirska koča and greeted the new warden Osamo Bin Ladna.nasmeh Continued towards Stari stan, where the path is still all under snow, which is visibly melting. There we all enjoyed the view of snow-covered peaks of KSA, Karavanke and Austrian mountains. Stop at Žlajfer with extra service to drinks gave us new strength for fun descent down snowy Medvedjak past the closed hotel, where we stepped on dry ground again. On the way down we also checked out Okno and Mesarska lopa and both were interesting. The tour was so varied it lasted almost the whole day.nasmeh
Thanks to all for really pleasant company.

Approximately ten years, every year a couple of times, I go to Golte and I'm ashamed to admit, I was on Javorca and at Janez's bivouac for the first time today. But it happened. I think the time has come that I will, I hope, now go to Javorca for the next ten years. I stepped on the path by the cairns from the marked path to Mozirska hut and from there continued on steep forest path through the magic of Mozirska planina. I stepped from cairn to cairn, excited over the steep forest path. Exactly those are my favorites. I missed the rock jumps. Don't know how. Next time I'll search for them. The path captivated me so much that I forgot everything and suddenly found myself at the top. On the rock I saw the inscription Janezov bivak and directed myself to the trail leading down, not knowing what awaits me. After short descent I was at the bivouac. What a corner Janez! Thanks that you don't hide it just for yourself! I didn't stay too long, started late. Photo, banana, return to the hut and then back to Žekovec.
Every path is beautiful on its own, all are special and this one is no different. But this path has that which I like most in hill-walking. Definitely returning! Next time I'll take more time and maybe Janez, we meet sometime and say something.
My personal opinion is that Javorca and Janez's bivouac are a wonderful monument to mountains and mountaineering in general! Good luck!

It's nice to wander around Golte in autumn.
I've been up there many times in the previous and this month, 26 times, and each time it was nice. From observing wonderful autumn nature, stalking wildlife, fairy-tale fog, meetings with old acquaintances, climbing, caving, enjoying nice views, warming by the fire, path maintenance, setting cairns, first gentians, searching undiscovered corners, trudging through the first snow, trout fishing at Žlajfer,...
Paths are nicely passable, also across Tirske peči one can go nicely again. Both the secured one via Šteng, and the path via Zg. Lope. Also the path across Travnatnica to Zg. Lopa is nicely passable.

Janez, it's hard to find such a frequent Golte visitor as you, right? Always nice photos regardless of the weather they were taken in, and thus you succeed in conjuring Golte as one of the nice corners of Slovenia for us. Sometimes you equip photos with captions, but when not, we who don't know Golte like that are somewhat deprived, as we don't know what we're looking at in the photos, where the view goes into the valley or which path or slopes you're climbing or where you stand on top. Therefore I'd be grateful if you always enrich your photos also with these data and guide us that way around Golte. Lots of pleasure further on paths going up-down-around Golte.nasmehmežikanje
