Grintovec

Today via Gamsov skret and Mlinarsko sedlo. Except for a couple of hikers who went over Sleme, two descending from Skuta and quite a few youngsters at Mlinarsko sedlo, I didn't spot a living soul to the top.
Morning in jam-packed Kamniška Bistrica and all corners parked up to Konc promised otherwise.
At the top and then over Streha to the valley another story. eek
Path without peculiarities, road condition will improve next week.

On Monday dad and I went to Kokrsko sedlo then overnighted in the hut. The next morning we went to Grintovec too. Nice tour, steep all the way. Some more pics.

After the Saturday tour from Krvavec to Cojzova hut at Kokrško sedlo, on Sunday we continue to the highest KSA peak, Grintovec. After the full-day Saturday tour, we needed to overcome another good 700 m of elevation, which is not much but on the base of the previous day.... Among 24 hikers, we were especially glad for our youth, three under 20, one a bit more, age difference ca 45 years... All praise for good company and thanks to all three guides. All reached the summit, enjoyed the views. Although the path is not technically demanding, there is still 1,900 m of descent to do. Pleasantly tired, full of impressions, we finished in Kamniška Bistrica. Many thinking of our always smiling Jan...

In this mad world, anything is possible - how else to accept that the villain 'Volk' safely herds the sheep to the valley! velik nasmeh

Yesterday's ascent from Suhadolnik started completely empty-headed. Above the repaired Taška, I ran into shepherds guarding a flock of sheep. Since not even close to all 'accounted for', they asked for help. "If you meet any, direct them downward!"
What wouldn't one do to help...
Below Kokrško sedlo, I took a shortcut towards Jam. Barely stepped into the brush, hit an abundant group of scattered sheep! Shaking fleeces got scared of me and turned 180 degrees! Oh, no...
True to my word, I tirelessly sped up, overtook and stopped them. Felt good to deliver them at the top of the valley under the saddle to a young woman calling for help for easier herding to the valley. Myself back uphill. On steep, snowy grasses under Streha again...
Bypassed the scattered group on the right and safely directed it straight to the marked path. Heartfelt feeling during group descent from Streha, when the flock crawls in a straight line right in front of me, never forget. nasmeh

Down the old path with the shepherdess into the gully, from where it echoes, "Ohoho, look at them, look, the remaining sheep and the new shepherd!" velik nasmeh

Nice greeting.

Today (Thursday, October 8) was a day for Grintovec. Snow patches could be sensed in the morning a bit above Kokrsko Saddle, at Spodnje Jame it was already all covered with snow, at the roof and summit snow up to three-quarters of the boot or a bit more if you just fell into a hole. Weather wonderful, tracks of two forerunners helped me so I didn't have to search for the path in the snowy slope.

At the top it was blowing about 10 knots, lower almost nothing. Views also this time unique, wintry. On return at Spodnje Jame I noticed that in less than three hours, as much as I needed from there to the top and back, almost all snow up to Streha melted. If melting continues tomorrow at such pace, no snow by Saturday. Then probably a new, more lasting shipment follows.

And about branches that annoy: going up my ice axe on backpack annoyingly got stuck on a branch sticking over the path. The rest of the same fallen tree Garmont already cleared last time in rain. When returning I decided to sort it. But no need, as the branch obviously annoyed a third person too and they - cut it off. Path now fully clearbig grin.

Winter gear today stayed in backpack, also gaiters, but maybe better if I put them on in upper part of path.

On Thursday, 22. 10., at the lower cable car station to Kokrsko Saddle I saw a bunch of keys. Hanging on the direction sign. When I free up some space on my phone, I'll add their photo.

Hi
Looking at the weather a bit... Saturday sun... how much snow towards Grintavec... I'm more of a beginner regarding winter hikes... but Grintovec seems suitable... would go from Suhadolnik... if some good soul... would be happy if takes me along... thanks

Sašo, you're kidding, right? Grintovec in these conditions isn't suitable for beginners, it has already taken quite a few lives. For a start, better tackle lower hills, under 2000 m. And two-thousanders aren't everything, in current conditions lower hills are also nice, just saying smile

Well, that's why I asked... I'm not the type to go head through the wall... but I'd like to get used to it... and I have no one to ask... even less to ask someone to get me used...
Thanks for the warning...

I don't know if Saturday will be nice, Sašo. Norwegian weather forecaster (who also mistakes the mountain name, like you two with Polona) claims the opposite. For snow feel you can go from the base to Kamniško sedlo (so you don't have too little walking), and you have shelter in winter room.

You say you have no one to advise or help you at the beginnings. So for the start I recommend a course for safe winter hiking; there are quite a few providers, google a bit (I can recommend Chera hiking, Kofler sport, also Šorn and Volontar are OK, at least I have good experiences with them). At these courses you usually meet companions for the mountains too. OK, in these times it's harder to do, but it'll get better. I hope.

Tone, you're right, the correct one is Grintovec, I always mix it up with Bavški - I apologize in advance if it happens again wink

Today, 17.12., we were on Grintovec from Konc. From Suhadolnik only one poor track was visible. From Kamnik direction quite hard snow to the Saddle, further today soft. Temperatures in sun were purely summery. You need full winter gear and enough experience where and when to use it.
