On Kredarica there is still about 1.75 m of snow, so I think crampons are in order.

In the high mountains on the northern side where avalanches have piled up, there is still so much compacted and icy snow that crampons and ice axe are mandatory at those spots. Compacted snow is especially dangerous for slipping, so caution and lots of enjoyment in the mountains.

Does anyone have info on the further fate of the hut on Dolič? I have a proposal that for the reconstruction of the hut every mountain lover (whether PZS member or not) contributes 1EUR, I think quite some money could be collected this way. Some could also add all mountaineering societies, as they have to contribute to the construction of the mountaineering museum too. How this action could start, the society managing this hut would have to think a bit. regards

Excellent suggestion. Not only those who love mountains, every Slovene should contribute 1 EUR (or more, whoever can). When "this new" Kredarica was built or extended, the entire Slovenian community helped too. In those times all employed had to give one day's earnings for road construction, in return we got bonds redeemable after so many years. Those bonds could then be allocated for building the hut at Kredarica. I allocated mine for that purpose. It would be right to help now also with the renovation of the Dolič hut. The PD managing the Dolič hut should open an account to which individuals and companies can transfer their contribution.

Yesterday (1.8.2009) I visited the unfortunately collapsed hut at Dolič. I left the car at Rudno polje and headed towards Vele polje. The path is completely dry. I continue past the dairy along the Velski valley (where there are still some snow patches that don't hinder the ascent) to Dolič. At Dolič I'm surprised that the hut is open and supplied even though half the hut is "cut off". The workers diligently clearing the remains of the collapsed hut deserve praise. Nice mountaineer's greeting!

I opened this thread to praise pensioners from Gorje who for 4 months voluntarily helped renovate Dolič Hut. There was a report today on Svet on Kanal A. Guys and girls, hats off, you're super :-) LP from Radovljica JohnyBravoSLo

Excellent work they did, can't wait for spring to visit the renovated hut. I hope PZS rewards them properly, as they are an example to all how to handle such extraordinary situations. Regards!

I only saw the last part of the post, I agree you are an example to all who visit the mountains. With diligent work you helped get the most necessary repaired and prepared for the coming winter. Thank you. In August my husband and I visited the hut and on the terrace of the day room-former dining room we had a nice chat while drinking coffee. You explained to us the course of the renovation, necessary work... above all traces of your hardworking hands were already visible. We'll see each other again next year.. Good luck

Hello! This July I was at Dolič. And... you can't believe what an avalanche can do and what motivated and hardworking people can make from that devastation with bare hands! Really, BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO!!! Ps: Why doesn't our national TV say a word about this? (at least not in the News, maybe something later in Echoes?!)

I just watched the video. Thanks Gorazd for the link. What can I say... if all mountain friends did just a small part of what you did, many things would be much more arranged and nicer. Bravo and hats off that you slaved four months and did work many construction firms wouldn't in that time.
