Yesterday, a bit for training, to Češka koča via Mlinarsko sedlo over Dooolgi hrbet to Štruca and back. Weather and views crazy, pure ten, path bp, except Dolgi hrbet which is really long and drags, not recommended for vertigo sufferers. The day was wonderful

Rozka, I admire your mountain feats. I went about a year ago on the same path to Skuta and it was quite strenuous and demanding. But I had the bad luck that the weather worsened on the way back, so I went back via bivouac to Cojzova, then via Ovnove Čere, along the scree right back to the saddle and then to Češka. Haven't repeated such strenuous tours yet. Nice, though rainy autumn greeting!

Hello mountain lovers! Tomorrow I plan to ascend from Kokrško sedlo to Skuta then over long ridge to Mlinarsko sedlo and descend towards Češka Koča. Wondering if I need a self-belay kit for this path and how secured is the path on long ridge, which worries me most. Thanks for info and happy trails in mountains.

Helmet absolutely mandatory, self-belay kit also won't hurt, best you judge yourself on that, since you know best your abilities (fitness, concentration in short psychophysical properties).

The whole ridge is secured where it needs to be, exposure is quite significant. I went in the opposite direction, from Mlinarsko sedlo to Skuta. On one section with pegs and a bit of overhang, I lacked some arm strength, but managed it after a few tries and finding the optimal variant. Would have given anything then to have the belay kit on. Strongly recommend protection and helmet. Safe travels, the ridge is no big scary thing if physical and mental fitness are right. Lots of enjoyment, Saša

For the ridge I don't know, but for the descent Mlinarsko sedlo - Češka koča I would 100% take a helmet (quite crumbly at spots). The kit for this descent in my opinion doesn't help much.

Self-belay recommended, helmet I'd say mandatory (you never know what flies through the air), otherwise agree with John, Anyo and sjevnika... Besides gear preparation plays big role, which as John said affects safety of our mountain movement... Good luck!

My opinion: if you ask if you need self-belay kit or not, then you do. Experienced hikers usually don't ask such questions, so take it just in case. By the way, I also recommend traversing Dolgi hrbet towards Skuta (if you can combine the tour) lp

Hello everyone who replied to me. Thanks for every tip. Yesterday I did the described route from Kokrško sedlo to Skuta and back over Dolgi hrbet to Češka koča. I had a self-belay kit and used it on Dolgi hrbet 2x for a better feeling. For the rest, as you write, you don't need it. The tour is demanding physically, especially, but if you are concentrated, there is no problem. The tour is very very nice, scenic, and I recommend it to all mountain lovers. A helmet is essential!

Nice weather forecast lured me yesterday to a less visited end of KSA. I started hiking from Suhadolnik farm in Kokra. Path over Taška is dry except two small snow patches. Snow starts already at the exit from Taška, in the morning still hard and doesn't sink. From Cojzova koča onwards the sun was warming me. Despite that, snow under my weight didn't sink (max 5-10cm), so I reached relatively quickly from the gate to the bivouac. The biggest problem on the path is lack of snow right after descending the gate, as you can't stick the ice axe and crampons don't hold well. At the bivouac I took a longer break. My first goal was Skuta but due to great heat I later decided to climb the gully to Dolgi hrbet. The ascent, which looks quite easy from afar, later gave me quite a few problems. Still, I managed to climb the gully, the altimeter took me to the top, though I'm not entirely sure, as I didn't see any higher point. I returned via the gully, thank God it wasn't icy and I could push crampons deep into the snow. At the bottom I sunbathed a bit then back. Above the bivouac snow held my weight all day (I'm really of heavier build). Since I had enough time and wonderful weather, I decided to overnight in the bivouac. Mattresses are really hard, but the view is wonderful. I didn't hear any avalanche slides. (If anyone knows if this gully has a name, I'd be very happy for the info) LP Miro

The trail from Češka koča to Mlinarsko sedlo towards Dolgi hrbet is dry, except two snowfields that don't pose problems... long live... and happy trails...
