Sorry if I asked too relaxedly what the conditions are like these days on Bogatin. And what are they?

Path from Koča pri Savici to Komna is ok - where there are tree remains the path is unobstructed or new section made, so path is passable. From junction to Črno jezero there's still some snow, but you can get up.

From Koča na Komni to Bogatinsko sedlo the path is almost dry. You can also reach Bogatin and Mahavšček, but not on marked path, because you need to bypass some snowfields.

On 12.2.2015 I continued the hike I started the day before at hotel Zlatorog in Ukanc. Original goal was Lanževica, but in the end I was overjoyed to have pushed through to Bogatinsko sedlo. To Koča pod Bogatinom there was a nicely snowshoed path, further ski tracks and 0.5 m deep holes of two hikers who struggled here the previous day. In the morning the path was still frozen, so with snowshoes no sinking into predecessors' holes, who turned back about 0.5 hours from Koča pod Bogatinom. I continued on the ski track winding along the summer path. From the start the path easily followed the mule track, then snow amount and steepness increased quickly. Soon I spotted a larger group of skiers far ahead. For sharp ski edges crossing steep slopes of Sr. Vrh was a breeze, for my snowshoes a real nightmare. While with snowshoes I barely dug into icy base, further with crampons I sank to knees. So at first opportunity I descended to valley and continued on winter path through Gracije valley, where the skiers ahead also descended later. Ascent to Bogatinsko sedlo no major problems, though under the top ice crust under snowshoes broke more and more. On saddle snow blown into drifts and windblown to ice. Similar towards Bogatin and Lanževica. For continuing to Lanževica I ran out of strength and after short break headed to valley. Over first steepness crampons were right, then snowshoeing in valley pure pleasure. Border between wet and dry snow right in middle of valley. Unfortunately carefree wandering ended quickly as fog crept from valley. Due to poor visibility I joined mule track a bit later than otherwise. For hikers better to break trail through Gracije valley. Despite still visible debris passages in valley nicely filled. In winter conditions this approach much more suitable than steep crossings under Sr. Vrh. Although snow from steepness above mule track already slid to valley in previous days, already in morning soggy snow under 1-2 cm ice crust didn't provide real support. Otherwise next days cloudy weather, new snowfall forecasted, so snow conditions probably completely different. My nice two-day trip around Komna I ended at shamefully decaying hotel Zlatorog in Ukanc.

Suzana, once (really many years ago) the winter variant went completely elsewhere, didn't go past Koča pod Bogatinom at all, but from Dom na Komni through middle of valley to Bogatinsko sedlo. Whenever I'm now on Komna in winter, I don't see this variant trodden anymore. Where does this winter path start now? Thanks in advance!

Yeah of course it's dry to Savica! Path to Komna is excellent, we were there Saturday. Path well trodden, snow hard so walks great. For better feel we had small crampons but went fine without them too. Up top winter fairy tale, bit of snow and more wind! Hut has such nice staff you'd go up all the time! In short Komna calls in all seasons!!!

Today to Komna, otherwise no problem but some modest crampons are welcome. On some spots due to skiers the path is already pure toboggan.

On Saturday possible without trouble and no postholing. During holidays lots of visitors, track firm, touring skiers made nice piste.
