urbe, I didn't mean literally. But it's true, if they're used to getting food and it runs out, they start looking for it. They overturn all the pots on the balcony, rummage in the soil, lift moss and throw it over the balcony too. I've already found out that they leave less mess behind if there is food than if there isn't.

I read in a book about Pavel Kunaver and his wife, they had a weekend cottage somewhere above Lake Bohinj. One winter, with plenty of snow, they regularly fed the birds, large feeder in front of the cottage. Then they had to go to Ljubljana for a week or so on errands, when they returned, there were quite a few dead birds under the feeder. They were used to where to get food and when it ran out, they couldn't cope....

On the photos they are often seen near clean waters - dipper and mandarin duck, which I first observed on the Sora river a bit below Škofja Loka.
