Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) is a trout species introduced from North America to Europe at the end of the 19th century. Today, rainbow trout is a widely distributed fish species in European waters, often confused with brown trout. Characteristic of rainbow trout is that they are more resistant to pollution (compared to brown trout) and tolerate higher temperatures. They grow to 20 to 40 cm in length, in individual cases up to 50 cm.
