Alpine Marmot (Marmota marmota)

Marmot is ranged as a rodent and weighs about 8kg. It has big eyes, small ears , long claws and short tail. It lives in communities of 10 members per family (pack). It eats plants (1kg per day). Younger ones a little less. Marmots which are located on meadows in range of mountains of medium and higher height sleep over winter. They find their winter quarters from 2 to 5 metres under the surface (they digg deep narrow pits). They live there for almost half a year. Their body temperature falls to 5 or less degrees celzium during their winter sleep. Soon after they wake up they start to mate. Females usually whelp from 3 to 5 blind young ones. But not more than 3 times in a life.
