Access to the starting point:
We drive to Luce (to get here from Mozirje or via Kranjski rak) and on to the Logar valley. Shortly after the village Solčava, you will come to a crossroads where the road to the Logarska dolina branches off to the left. Turn right towards Matkov kot and park in the parking lot opposite the chapel.
Path description:
From the parking lot, follow the main road to the macadam road on the left, then follow it and the log cabin on the right up into the forest. When you reach the new forest road, take it to the right and leave it at the left-hand bend. Continue straight ahead on the forest track to a steeper slope where the path ends. From here on, take the easiest option between the rocks and trees to climb up to the ridge. At the beginning of the ridge there is a beautiful view of Klemenčo peč.
Continue left along the ridge, avoiding the difficulties to the right.
Soon you come to a very overgrown part of the path, where you wade through dry spruce branches. Higher up, the ridge becomes easier to cross and a steep slope appears, which we follow more or less to the Velika summit. Before the Velika peak, the difficulties are avoided by first descending a short way down the rocks to the left and then following an exposed passage to the right. Before the summit, there is still a crawl under pine trees and a steep grassy approach to the summit. It took us 3 hours to get here.
The Big Peak offers one of the best views, given its modest height. A good reason for a first long rest!
From the Velika summit, first cross the pine trees to the neighbouring peak, then down it to the right towards Matkov kot and left along the steep ridge (difficult) below the walls. From there, between the pine trees, right and down past the pine towards the saddle (steep grass), from which it is possible to descend into the Logarska dolina or Matkov kot.
From the saddle, continue along the ridge (not along the visible hunting trail to the left, which leads to Zabrložnice), following the steep slopes, avoiding the difficulties to the left. Before the Savinjek headland, first avoid the problems by following the exposed rocky ledge to the left and when the ridge becomes too overgrown with pine trees, follow the track below the ridge to the right. Below Savinjek there are two ways to reach the summit. Either continue along the right side and back left along the ridge to the top or follow the steep gully directly to the top. If the gully is dry, I recommend the latter. From Savinjek it is possible to descend to the hunting hut in Zabrložnica and further to Logarski kot.
From Savinjek, descend the ridge and follow the track to the left of the ridge, which leads through pine trees to the clearly visible meadows below the unnamed summit (Red Tower?). From the grassy ridge it is worth visiting this two-peaked peak, from which there is a fine view. From the summit, return to the ridge and cross under the cliffs to the scree below Matkovo okno (here again it is possible to descend to the hunting hut in Zabrložnica and to Logarski kot, or follow the path to the right to Okrešlje). Climb up the scree to a steep grassy ridge, then to the passage to the left (the wedge) and below Matkovo okno. Then up the steep grass to Matkovo okno. And now it's time for a rest and a snack, if we haven't already taken one at Savinjek. We look through Matkovo okno towards Matkova kopa and enjoy this romantic setting. If we were fast, it took us 5 hours to get here.
We still have about 3 hours of very difficult ridge (I-II) to Mrzla gora.
From the window we continue up through the pine trees and it is best to stick to the ridge as much as possible. From the unnamed summit we can see the most difficult part with two peaks in front of the notch of Hudega scratch. Descend right on the ledge and left on the soft blocks back to the ridge and down to the notch. From the notch there is first a very exposed passage to the right on a steep wall (the left variant ends above the precipices towards Okrešl) and then a traverse between pine trees back to the ridge. When it becomes impassable before the small notch, go straight down to the left (on the most difficult part, descend with the help of a pine branch) and continue on the crumbly ledges to the right into the gully. When it closes, left after a steep jump to pine trees. Cross to a steel cable and bear slightly left down to a rocky passage and continue along craggy ledges towards a larch tree on the ridge. A steep climb on partly grassy, partly rocky terrain lies ahead. We have made it to the larch with no major problems, and we have only a steep jump to make before the notch of the Hudega scratch, which can be done by descending by rope.
From the larch we continue on very crumbly terrain to the ridge. If we wish, we can climb back up the ridge to the summit, which we have bypassed on the left. Or continue along the ridge with pine trees to the jump in front of the stump of Hudega scratch. Descend or make a descent into the notch and continue along the ridge, or take the easier option to the left below the ridge along a clearly visible path (from Hudega scratch) and along a well-defined couloir.
At the top of the gully, follow the more or less visible path between pine trees and scrub, descend into a small hollow in between and climb back up the ridge on the grasses. From the ridge, cross the scree on the marked path leading from Matkov kot to the top of Mrzla gora. Continue the ascent to the top.

Difficulty The ridge from Matkovo okno onwards is very difficult (I,II), with many steep overgrown passages, small blocks, crumbly, loaded ledges. It is recommended to belaying with a rope and accompanied by a guide. The route is very long and physically very strenuous. The walking time of 8 hours that I have quoted can be extended considerably, but of course it can also be shortened.
Prle has already mentioned that the ridge is adventurous, untouched, for those ridge riders who are not afraid of the scree and for whom dwarf pines is close - in short, a ridge for exotics.

Pozdravljeni! Prejšnjo nedeljo sva z ženo izkoristila še enega zadnjih lepih dni letos za kopne ture in končno prehodila še drugi del (težji del) grebena do Mrzle Gore...

jerdna19. 11. 2022 17:04:38
