Access to the starting point:
From Villach, drive through Spittal on the Drava to Flattach. A little beyond this point, you will see a sign for the Innerfragant or Mölltaler Gletscherbahn, where you turn right. Follow the signs for the Mölltaler Gletscherbahn and park at the lower cable car station.
Path description:
First take the funicular to the middle station (2234 m), then the gondola to the top station (2800 m). On leaving the building, direction signs point you to the right towards Schareck (route number 133). Continue along the edge of the ski slope steeply towards the saddle, the signs for the mountain trail are few and faint. If you don't want to walk on the snow slope, you can turn slightly right onto a trackless path, which in summer is mainly on rocks (depending on the snow cover). When you reach the saddle at the top of the ski slope, you will find a sign for the summit of Schareck, which directs you to the left onto the ridge (to the right of the saddle is the adjacent summit of Baumbachspitze). Continue along the ridge, where you will soon see the first fixed safety gear. Continue towards the summit and the fixed safety gear end at the top of the ridge. There is still about 20 m of unguarded ridge to cross, which is precipitous on both sides. It takes a few minutes to reach the top.
