Zaplana (St. Urh and St. Martin) - Koča na Planini nad Vrhniko

Access to the starting point:
a) Leave the Ljubljana - Koper motorway at the Vrhnika exit and continue along the old road towards Logatec. At the end of the Vrhniški klanč hill, turn right in the direction of Zaplana, and when you reach Zaplana, turn slightly right at the crossroads in the direction of the tower (left Rovte). Continue climbing for some time, then the road will lay down and lead us past the chapel to the next junction, where we continue along the lower left road in the direction of Zaplana (right tower). After a few 100 m more driving, the road will lead us to the Church of St. Urho and St. Martin, where we will park in a suitable place.
b) From the motorway Ljubljana - Koper take the exit Logatec and then continue driving to Logatec. From the roundabout, where you reach the old road Vrhnika - Postojna, turn right (direction Vrhnika) and continue along the old road towards Vrhnika, which you follow for only a few 100 m, then turn left onto the road in the direction of Rovt and Žirov. Continue along the gradually curving road, which you follow to a junction where the road to Zaplana branches off to the right. The road then leads to Zaplana, where we first pass through the village of Prezid, and then reach a crossroads where we join the road from the vrhniška klanca. Here we continue sharp left and climb for some time, then the road is laid and leads us past the chapel to the next crossroads, where we continue on the lower left road in the direction of Zaplana (right tower). After a few more 100 m of driving, the road leads us to the church of St. Urho and St. Martin, where we park in a suitable place.
c) First drive to Škofja Loka, then continue driving towards Gorenje village and Žire. From Žiri, continue along a slightly more winding road towards Rovty and Logatec. Before Logatec, you will reach a crossroads where the road to Zaplana branches off to the left. The road then leads to Zaplana, where you first pass through the village of Prezid, and then reach a crossroads where the road from the vrhniško hill joins the road. Here we continue sharp left and climb for some time, then the road is laid and leads us past the chapel to the next crossroads, where we continue on the lower left road in the direction of Zaplana (right tower). After a few more 100 m of driving, the road leads us to the church of St. Urho and St. Martin, where we park in a suitable place.

Path description:
From the church, first cross the road and then climb the initially stone cart track. The path quickly turns into a forest through which it continues to the nearby new houses. At the houses, step out onto the road, which quickly leads to a marked crossroads, where you continue left in the direction of the tower (straight on Lintvern, right on the road which descends to the lower part of Zaplana).
Continue along the dirt road, which continues for some time without any major changes in elevation, and then gradually begins to descend. After a few minutes of descending, you reach a place where the marked path to Ulovka branches off sharply to the left, and a few steps further on to a crossroads, where you continue along the right-hand road in the direction of the tower at Mountain pasture above Vrhnika. Continue along the road, which descends gently for a short distance, and then joins the road from Stara Vrhnika and Kurna on the left. There is only a short climb and the path leads to the Shelter at Mountain pasture above Vrhnika.
If you wish, you can climb the nearby lookout tower at your own risk.
